This boy would see the stray dogs running around, desperate for food, every single day. He had barely any money, but he used it to help the poor animals anyway.
Ken Amante lives in the Philipines. He comes from a middle-class family, but his parents used to be incredibly poor.
As soon as the boy was old enough, Ken’s parents told him about how they had worked their way out of poverty
These stories stuck with Ken. He would always want to help others whenever he could, thinking of those who had aided his parents. But one thing, in particular, struck Ken as needing his attention.
There was a pack of stray dogs roaming his street. Some thought that the animals were vermin. But Ken could see that they were just unfortunate creatures. So he decided to do something about it.
Ken’s parents grew suspicious of what Ken was up to. They noticed that he was taking much longer to come home from school. He also never had any pocket money to buy toys and other things that he wanted.
So one day, Ken’s dad decided to secretly watch what Ken was getting up to on his way home from school. And when the father found out, it melted his heard.
First, Ken stopped off at the grocery store. He walked back out with a few cans of dog food.
Then, when Ken was on his home street, the pack of dogs would run up to him. Ken would then carefully lay out the dog food for all of the animals.
Later, Ken’s dad revealed to Ken that he had spotted him feeding the dogs, and that he was proud.
Ken said that he was so happy that his father approved of him helping the animals. The child later revealed that he had named the dogs Whitey, Blackie and Brownie. He had been feeding the animals for months by now. Initially, it was only Whitey who would come up to him. But over time, all three dogs learned to trust Ken.
Ken’s father shared a Facebook post of the story of his son. It soon got shared all over the world. People were amazed that the boy was being so kind to these dogs. In fact, people wanted to help Ken.
People started sending Ken money so that he could buy enough food for the dogs. In fact, Ken and his family received so much money that they realized they could do so much more than just feed those three stray dogs.
So Ken started a non-profit named the Happy Animals Club. It opened a no-kill animal shelter in his town on a 1,000 square meter lot.
Before Ken was 10 years old, the shelter had opened, and the first animals to get rescued and rehomed were Whitey, Blackie and Brownie.
In the years since opening, Happy Animals Club has grown and grown.
It is a vital resource for all of the cats and dogs in Ken’s town that need somewhere safe to stay while they are between owners.
Ken’s parents are right to be proud of their child. The boy has saved thousands of lives, and he’s still many years away from being an adult!
