There’s a reason why there are so many K9 units employed in the police force and in the military- they’re simply essential and unmissable in certain scenarios.
If there’s one thing that most people can agree on, it’s that dogs are absolutely amazing animals and truly live up to their moniker of being a man’s best friend. And, as you’ll see, they’re a woman’s, too.
Another great thing about dogs is that you can train some breeds to a perfect extent. After all, there are a bunch of therapy dogs, guide dogs for blind people, and K9 units in law enforcement and the military.
With the right attitude and enough training, certain dog breeds will pretty much perform any command you can throw at them.
Every year, human and four-footer pairs compete for a trophy at the Dog Dance World Championship.
While the name of the competition may seem fun and joyful, the championship is actually seen as very prestigious and it’s an event that many people look forward to every year.
Some duos even practice their performance for an entire year.
In a recent edition, there was one pair that managed to steal the hearts of the internet with an absolutely impeccable performance.
Meet Lucy and her adorable German Shepherd. who listens to the name Deril!
Even though they ended up getting second place at this competition, it was their performance that went viral online, and it’s just an absolute blast to see.
Lucy and Deril have chosen for a military-themed performance, something that’s reflected from beginning to end. Lucy, appropriately dressed for the occasion, is the perfect partner for K9 Deril.
The video starts with both of them sleeping, but they are roughly woken up by trumpet blasts.
When Lucy refuses to get up, Deril tries pulling her blanket off and even pretends he’s going pee to make sure she’ll move! This performance wasn’t only brilliant in a technical manner, it was even pretty humorous too.
When the music starts playing, Deril proudly shows what he’s capable of.
The next part seems like it’s coming straight out of a calisthenics workshop. Lucy is doing some military drills and is busy with lunges, all while Deril is keeping a close eye on her.
Moments later, the four-footer decides to join and they do squats together! Just look at how balanced Deril stays, it’s safe to say he could actually pull off a lot more squats than the average human!
The military training doesn’t end there, as push-ups and sit-ups are next.
Deril supports his army friend by holding her legs. All in all, it’s quite a complicated routine, and the fact that Deril can follow it so meticulously just shows how intelligent he is and how hard they trained together.
The last bit of the performance left the crowd in awe!
You can already hear the background music changing a little bit, and Lucy pulls out a toy grenade. She plays fetch and Deril brings it back to her- but then we hear an explosion.
Lucy plays dead, and the response from Deril is absolutely amazing.
He rushes towards her, gets on her chest, and starts doing heart compressions for CPR!
The very final scene brings both of them right back to where they began.
Deril grabs the blanket from earlier, and then carefully wraps it all around them. The two give their final salute as the audience erupts in applause!
Lucy and Deril didn’t only impress the judges and the crowd, they also won over the hearts of over 18 million viewers on YouTube.
