Being a parent is one of the most rewarding jobs in the world, but every parent knows that it’s also one of the toughest. Raising children, especially little ones, can be extremely challenging. At a young age, they like to roam the house, discover and explore things, and often with disregard for their own safety.

After all, they simply don’t understand yet why certain things are dangerous.

For example, every parent’s heart sinks when they see a little one playing around electrical outlets, but one mom has now found a perfect and easy DIY solution for that.

We’ve all seen our fair share of lifehacks, and there are tons of tricks and tips that can apply when you’ve got kids running around- “parenting hacks” if you will.

If there’s one thing that we want as a mom or dad, it’s that our kids remain out of danger. Safety comes first and is a parent’s absolute priority. Childproofing your home is often needed, or else you’re likely to end up with some painful or dangerous accidents.

The curiosity of babies, toddlers, and little ones is at their highest, and it’s bound to give parents a lot of stress one way or the other. There are just so many things in your home that could be potentially dangerous, and electrical outlets and sockets are one of them.

Power outlets are obviously dangerous because of the potential for electrocution. Holding a metal object against it could give people a shock or short-circuit equipment.

However, electrical outlets are also placed at an ideal height for babies and toddlers, and as curious as they are, they’re bound to stick their fingers in an outlet sometime.

Of course, there’s already such a thing as an electrical outlet cover that you purchase in a store or online for the entire home, but there’s a very simple and cost-efficient DIY solution that’ll make your home even safer. And chances are, if you’ve got a child, the solution is already sitting right next to you.

The most simple ideas are often the most genius ones.

When one mom was throwing empty packages of baby wipes in the trash bin, she had a dawning realization that these packages definitely weren’t useless.

She realized you can use the plastic lid on wipe containers as easy, practical covers for electrical outlets.

Now, many parents have been left wondering why they never thought of it themselves!

When mom Brittany Kurtz shared her idea online, it didn’t take long before this very easy DIY electrical cover made rounds around the world. In fact, her original Facebook post was shared almost 180,000 times!

“Remove the adhesive top from the baby wipes package, then place over outlets. I certainly still will keep my baby safe outlet covers in, but this is just another precaution for on top. Out of sight, out of mind,” she wrote.

It turns out that the dimensions of the plastic dispenser are ideal for this situation, and they perfectly fit over a regular electrical outlet.

And you don’t even need glue, the plastic dispenser should still have some leftover adhesive residue on it and will stick the outlet right away.

As Brittany herself notes, this should only be used as an extra precaution, on top of regular electrical covers.

Check out the DIY video below to see how you can easily and quickly create power outlet covers out of your baby wipe containers. What a brilliant idea!
