A lot of animal experts will agree that the octopus is one of the most amazing and incredible animals out there. After all, their looks alone are so weird and unique, and their anatomy is truly something special.

Everybody knows that an octopus has eight boneless tentacles, but did you also know that these animals actually have three separate hearts?

Funnily enough, animal experts also consider octopi to be one of the smartest and most intelligent animal species that live on our planet.

Some distinctive octopi species even have the ability to camouflage their colors, or even adjust their own body shape so they can take the form of another organism.

The tentacles of an octopus have very special purposes, and they’re pretty much as usable as our own human limbs. Sometimes, you’ll see an octopus using its own tentacles to create some sort of shelter.

One day, a team of divers came across a friendly octopus, and the amazing encounter was filmed for everyone to see.

Pall Sigurdsson, a diver from Iceland, will definitely never forget his moment with this octopus who was covered by a plastic cup.

They seemed to hit it off right away, and it’s safe to say that these two quickly became friends.

The octopus clearly wasn’t doing too well – he wasn’t stuck in the plastic cup, it was just something he used as some sort of shelter. However, it was far from ideal, and definitely not meant to be the home of an octopus.

Luckily, Pall and his team had a gift ready, and the special animal appreciated the kind gesture.

The divers from Iceland quickly searched for a much better housing alternative – a hard sea shell that would be a lot better than this plastic cup. The transparency of the cup also makes the octopus a very easy target for predators.

It’s no secret that plastic waste is hugely affecting sea life and its inhabitants, and it seemed like humanity’s trash turned into the home of this octopus.

Even though in this specific case, the plastic cup seemed useful, there’s absolutely no denying that plastic waste is affecting the aquatic ecosystems in a very negative way. The divers themselves have plenty of experience with it and encourage everyone not to litter trash into the ocean.

β€œThere are good days, and there are bad days depending on ocean currents,” Pall said. “Some days, you see so much trash that it is almost impossible to film sea creatures without also including trash.”

When the octopus is handed the large seashell, you can see that he’s still a bit hesitant. After all, it’s not very easy to find shelter in the ocean, and it’s pretty dangerous as well with a bunch of predators roaming around.

It seems like the animal isn’t convinced.

This shell clearly wasn’t good enough for the animal, but the divers were determined to find him a better home. They were almost out of oxygen, but still had time to find their new friend another shell.

When they found the perfect one, the little octopus let him know.

After a little while, another shell was found – and you can see how the octopus reaches out with one of his tentacles.

On the other hand, the diver and the friendly octopus weren’t exactly on the same page about what the shell was actually for.

Eventually, the little fella got the right idea, though.

The octopus finally abandons his plastic cup to relocate into the new and beautiful shell.

The divers then also made sure that the octopus could reach the other half of the shell, how sweet!
