Moving out of your parents’ home and finding a place to live on your own is a big step in one’s life, and getting there takes a lot of hard work.
After all, you often need a considerable down payment, something that’s not always easy to get. For some people, it’s a huge bulk of money that prevents them from taking the big step.
Todd Burkemper from Missouri knew just how difficult this was, and he decided to secretly help out his brother Alex who was still studying.
Now, Alex has just graduated from college, and his big brother gave him the surprise of a lifetime.
For years, he had been keeping a secret from him, and it all led up to a beautiful and touching moment.
While Alex was studying, he asked his brother Todd if he could rent a room in his house.
Todd is a bit older than Alex and is now working as a senior software developer and an app designer. It took a lot of effort and hard work, but the man was able to pay off all of his student loans, his mortgage, and his car payments.
In other words, he was financially doing fine and definitely couldn’t resist helping his brother out.
Alex wanted to rent a room in his brother’s house, with an emphasis on rent. He didn’t want to take advantage of Todd, so they agreed on monthly rent payments.
Little did he know that Todd has been secretly keeping all of his rent money for years for another purpose.
Todd had a special surprise in store for Alex, and mom decided to film the heartwarming moment.
The two brothers are seen in the kitchen, and Todd hands him a phone while saying “That’s yours.”
Alex was confused and had no idea what his brother was talking about.
There was a savings balance screenshot on the phone, with a large amount displayed. Todd simply told him that he was putting all of his ‘rent payments’ into this account.
The young man is completely shocked and a simple “Why?” is all he can say at that point.
“So, you know how I started making you pay rent a couple of years ago? I just saved all your money,” Todd replied.
It actually didn’t end there – he didn’t just collect all of the rent money, he added some money out of his own pocket as well.
“He didn’t just save your money. He put some money in, too,” mom Barbara said.
On top of the monthly rent payment, Todd has actually been depositing an additional $150 in the savings account.
At this point, the news finally sinks in and Alex is brought to tears.
“I don’t want you to have to struggle like I did, so…” Todd told him.
The whole video is just absolutely touching and wholesome to see, and both of these brothers are clearly emotional and choked up.
These two then embraced each other in a brotherly hug.
The video was uploaded to YouTube and it has already touched the hearts of many!
It didn’t take long before the secret savings account was put to good use. Not too long after the special reveal, Alex shared the news that he bought his own home!
The smile on his face while holding the symbolic key in front of his charming new house truly says it all.
