While we’re not here to bash the benefits of these newly touted superfoods, we also want to make sure you don’t forget about the humble yet powerful herbs and spices you already have easy access to.

This powerhouse root (well, technically it’s a rhizome but we won’t get into that now) has been known for it’s medicinal properties for literally thousands of years.

In fact, according to Ancient Origins Magazine,

At least 5,000 years ago, ancient Indian and Chinese people were using ginger in tonics to treat health issues. Scholars believe that it was used in prehistoric cooking before it became a popular medicine.

Obviously, the cultures of millennias gone by kept this useful plant in cultivation for a reason. And we’ve found 7 of the best of them.

Ginger has been proven to contain phytonutrients the body needs, and also packs a ton of anti-oxidative properties. What that means is that certain nutrients or compounds in the ginger will seek out and destroy free radicals when they find them.

This is not to mention the fact that ginger is a naturally occurring antibacterial agent, as well, and will help to kill off any tiny, invasive intruders into your body.

***They do note that this powerful medicine can have a contraindication with certain blood-thinning medicines. So, if you’re on one of these, consult your doctor about the safest way to incorporate ginger into diet.
