Running a marathon requires months of training to get ready. You have to be in especially good condition to deal with the rigors that such vigorous exercise will put your body through.

Additionally, anyone attempting to run a marathon needs mental strength as well. They need to be able to keep focused on the task at hand without becoming distracted by what is going on around them. This can be the difference between success and failure.

Sometimes, however, a situation can arise where a runner must decide if a distraction is worth it. Occasionally, it absolutely is.

When the runner featured in the below video became distracted by a stray puppy during a marathon in Bangkok, she couldn’t just leave the little guy behind. The runner scooped up the tiny stray and ran with him in her arms for the rest of the race.

Now, the lucky pup lives with her and her other dogs in a loving forever home.

Khemjira Klongsanun enjoys running marathons and spending time with dogs. She got to do both things simultaneously on this particular day.

She’ll often go for runs with her dogs on a leash but was running this marathon by herself for the first 7 miles. Perhaps the little guy had seen her running with dogs before and thought she might be kind enough to bring him home with her. If that’s the case, he was right!

Khemjira was only 7 miles into the 26-mile marathon when she spotted the little guy.

She stopped running as soon as she noticed him.

The little puppy was lying by the side of the road and it was clear that there was no one looking after him. Khemjira decided to make the puppy the newest addition to her family, even if she had to run a whole marathon with him in her arms to make it happen.

Khemjira quickly decided to scoop the little guy up in her arms and look after him for as long as he needed it.

She still had a marathon to run, however, and she was going to finish the race no matter how many puppies she had to pick up along the way.

19 more miles were left in the marathon when Khemjira picked up her new companion.

Although the little dog was likely not aware he was running a marathon, both puppy and human crossed the finish line together.

Khemjira finished 34th in the race and was awarded a medal for her efforts. She did all that despite the extra time it took to stop and pick up her new friend.

Khemjira and her new puppy were photographed and filmed during the marathon. The pair were a big hit together as photos of the marathon were posted to Facebook.

Khemjira knew as soon as the race was over that this little guy would now be a regular part of her life. She took him home to meet the other dogs he would soon be sharing a home with.

She named her new puppy Nong Chom.

He fell asleep during the car ride home and slept the entire way. He must have realized that he was finally in kind, loving hands.

It was time to introduce Nong Chom to the other dogs as soon as they got home.

He instantly hit it off with all of them and fit right in. Khemjira took him to the vet for a check-up as well and even returned to the area to see if any of the pup’s family was nearby.

It seems little Nong Chom had been all alone in the area, however, so it’s a good thing Khemjira found him when she did.

The little puppy is now a member of a very loving family and has other dogs to play with as well.

Everything little Nong Chong has in his life now is all thanks to a caring runner who wouldn’t let a marathon get in the way of giving him a forever home.
