When Douglass Hall collapsed in the middle of the street, the people around him rushed to his aid and helped call an ambulance.

While he was down, one stranger decided she would take it in her own hands to ensure that his cart full of belongings was safe while he was being treated.

Dana Lee Calabrese was on her way to get dinner on April 30th when she, along with a few others, saw Hall fall into the street on Highland Ave. in Hollywood.

Hall is a war veteran who lost a leg during his service, so he was unable to get himself off the street when he had first fallen.

Calabrese, accompanied by two other strangers, called for the ambulance and waited by Hall’s side until they came.

“When I asked the first responders if they would be taking his belongings, one of them replied, ‘No, are you? A million more dominoes fall a day around here,” Calabrese said.

Unsatisfied with that answer, Calabrese took things into her own hands when she decided to personally walk Hall’s belongings all the way to her own house for safekeeping.

“I just couldn’t bare this person losing what I believed to be all he had in the world. So I thought, ‘Yeah, I will take his cart,” Calabrese stated.

Dana immediately posted a picture of the cart along with a message asking everybody to help her find Hall and return his belongings to him.

After some neighbors had seen Hall and connected him with Dana, the two were able to meet up on June 9th.

After sharing a wonderful dinner with Hall, Dana learned that he was ultimately trying to make his way back to New York, where he could reconnect with his friends.

After learning of this goal, Dana helped set up a GoFundMe page on Hall’s behalf, and was able to earn money for the ticket as well as a little extra to get him in the right direction.

When Hall eventually learned about all these accommodations Dana was making for him to get back home, he was overwhelmed by emotion.

“At that point, he was crying and telling me I was an angel. He also at one point screamed out ‘God is good,” Dana told reporters.

This amazing act of compassion towards a stranger is a great reminder of how selfless acts can make a world of difference in another person’s life.
