Dogs have so many admirable traits.
They are friendly, affectionate, a great companion, loving, loyal, and protective. That’s why many people fall in love with their pet dogs. It’s an all in one package, plus they won’t leave you. They would stay with you and protect you even if it puts them in danger.
By nature, dogs are very territorial animals. It’s in their genes; they are also very good with their sense of smell. That’s why dogs are being employed as police dogs, guide dogs, and even guard dogs.
Speaking of guard dogs; it just makes sense to prefer big and bulky dogs for this purpose. A cute teacup pup won’t really intimidate an intruder, right? That’s why getting a big, tough-looking, and strong dog is what you’d want for a guard dog.
You can sleep better at night knowing that your dog is there to alert you, in any case, someone breaks in – well, almost.
This hilarious story happened in the New Year of 2019. The dog’s owner, Lynn Sarver of Waukesha, Wisconsin, shared her funny experience with WISN News, and we’re sure that you’ll get a good laugh with it as well.
Lynn has a 120-pound Mastiff named Benton.
He is huge and extremely strong too. That’s why she was very confident that she and her family would be immediately alerted in any event that someone broke into their home – or so they thought.
It was New Year’s Day, everyone was still hung up with last night’s celebration when Lynn woke up early to start the year right. Still half asleep, she walked into her living room where she noticed her huge pup Benton, sleeping with someone.
There, curled up in Benton’s bed was a man – a complete stranger!
The stranger and Benton were fast asleep, cuddling, not a care in the world.
Seeing this, Lynn thought that it was her son that might have crashed in their home after partying. So she went closer to examine, and then she realized something!
“You know because he had dark hair and kind of the same size,” Lynn told WISN News.
She discovered that the man wasn’t her son.
It was a complete stranger! Slowly, Lynn went to her kitchen and carefully called 911.
“When we saw him the dog was sleeping on top of him,” she said to WISN News. “And we called 911 and we were hiding in the kitchen.”
Talk about being a guard dog!
Looking at Benton, you’d sure to feel intimidated, but this stranger didn’t. Instead, he was able to gain the big pup’s trust and even snuggled with him the first time they met.
Soon, everything was cleared out.
After the intruder woke up, he politely explained that it was all a bit of a misunderstanding. The young man lived nearby. What happened was that after he enjoyed his New Year’s party, he got really drunk, and he accidentally entered the wrong house by entering an unlocked patio door.
There, he saw Benton and his bed.
We’re guessing Benton knew that this young man wasn’t a threat, and instead of making any noises, he allowed the young man to sleep with him and as a bonus, they even snuggled.
A huge Mastiff, a cozy and warm bed, well, that explains it.
The man apologized, and Lynn decided not to press charges. After all, it was an honest mistake. Surely, he felt really embarrassed as well.
“You know I mean he didn’t mean any harm and he was a very nice kid basically,” Lynn smiling as she recalled the New Year scenario.
It was so nice to know that everything was cleared out. It could have been a different story if it was a bad man who did this.
Aside from the funny encounter, everyone learned a lesson here. Lynn will now make sure that all her doors are locked, and as for the young man, we’re pretty sure he won’t get drunk like this for a while.
