It’s hard to stay out of the sun now that summer is here. And even when you apply sunscreen, you might still end up with too much sun, or even some sunburn. So what could be more useful than a list of remedies? Here are some creative ways you can use things around the house to help treat your sunburn.
Brew up some tea
Tea isn’t only great for summertime drinking, it also works great to cool off skin that gets sunburnt! Black tea contains tannic acid that helps to draw heat away from your skin. It also helps to restore the pH balance of your sunburn. Just brew some fresh tea and apply it to a clean cloth before placing it onto your burn. For a cool feeling, you can even add some mint to the tea!
Or if you prefer to enjoy your tea, use the tea bag! It works has the same effect.
Slice some cucumbers
Cucumbers on the skin conjures memories of tranquil spas and cool relaxation. They also work great after you heat up from too much sun! Just grab some cold cucumbers and place them in a blender to turn them into a paste. Then apply the cucumber paste to any areas affected by sunburn and you’ll be feeling refreshed in no time!
Or slice a potato
Potatoes are yet another food that is great for treating sunburnt skin. The starchy compounds in potatoes help to reduce the stinging sensation that’s brought on by sunburn. All you have to do is cut your potato into slices and rub one of the slices onto the areas affected by sunburn.
Apply some apple cider vinegar
Getting sunburnt alters the pH balance of your skin and can cause too much acidity. In order to treat your sunburn and restore balance to the pH of your skin, just add one cup of apple cider vinegar to your both.
Or use baking soda
Baking soda is another alkaline substance that can help to restore the pH balance of your sunburnt skin. If you don’t have any vinegar around the house, just add two cups of baking soda to your bath.
