I tried a silk and silver pillowcase for two weeks – Here’s what happened to my skin and hair
The results were stunning.

If you’re anything like me, you will jump onto any new trend that is said to transform the hair and skin! Besides an overnight hair mask, I hadn’t heard of any other hair care that could take place overnight. So, the idea of having skin care and hair care that requires literally nothing besides a single purchase, was very intriguing! I couldn’t wait to get a silk and silver pillowcase in my hands.

I am one who has struggled with acne since being an early teen. I’ve been through what feels like every possible skin cycle. It was at its worst around puberty at 13, cleared up around 16 after taking a prescribed medication, then came back in my late teens and early twenties! It cleared up once again when I was on birth control (the “pregnancy” glow is real!), and now one final time it has come back with a vengeance now that I’m off hormonal therapy. With all that being said, you’ve probably assumed I’ve tried almost every product over the years, and you are correct! From Clean and Clear in the early 2010’s to the TikTok viral La Roche-Posay, I have tried it all. And I will likely continue to do so for years to come. I always want the best treatment that’s on the market!

Then, there’s hair care! This one is significantly newer to me. I’ve only been interested and invested into hair care for around 3 years. Why the sudden intrigue you might ask? As many others have, I have gone through a couple phases of blonde as a born brunette. Both times, I went as blonde as blonde can get. Did I love it? I loved every second of it. Did I pay the ultimate price for it? I absolutely did. Maintaining blonde as a brunette meant getting my roots bleached every 6 weeks. Over the course of 1-2 years of bleaching, my hair would get to the point of being so broken and brittle that I had to do a full chop and basically start over (I have always had long hair, so chopping my hair is not an easy decision to make). Nonetheless, it is a necessary decision if I want to have remotely healthy looking hair. This led me to my journey of learning how to best care for my hair, whether it’s being colored or if its grown out virgin hair.

I had always heard separately about the benefits of silk pillowcases and of silver pillowcases separately. When my friend told me about the Dosaze silk AND silver pillowcase, I knew I had to try it.

I started by procuring a silk and silver pillowcase from Dosaze — this pillowcase was recommended to me by a friend because it is both silk and silver.

It has all of the benefits of silk — it’s soft, it’s cooling, it’s low friction, and it does not soak up your skin treatments — plus the antimicrobial effects of silver.

This is extra good for combatting acne. It really is the best of both worlds.

I definitely noticed a difference after sleeping on my new silk and silver pillowcase. The biggest thing I was expecting was less tug on the hair and skin, and on that it delivered! I toss and turn all night long so usually I have a lot of hair that has been pulled out of the low ponytail that I sleep in. Tugging on the hair like this often leads to breakage, so I was ecstatic when I noticed a significantly reduced amount of hair that was pulled out of my ponytail. The picture on the left is my hair after a full night’s sleep on my cotton pillowcase, and on the right was my first night using my silk and silver pillowcase after a full night’s sleep. I literally couldn’t believe it!

I also loved the feeling of the pillowcase on my skin. After long term use, I could see how this would help with anti-aging as my skin didn’t bunch up and wrinkle when I laid on my side (I’m a chronic side sleeper). I also noticed that my skin didn’t stick to the pillow after applying my nightly skincare. This gave me the peace of mind knowing that the pillowcase wasn’t soaking up all my product or even the bacteria that would build up on my face overnight. As far as my acne, can I say this pillowcase was the cure to my acne? Of course not, not yet at least, as any avid skincare user knows that it takes months to see final results from new products that you introduce. But, I did notice my skin was slightly clearer! I can’t wait to see what months of using this pillowcase will do.

Lastly, I tend to wake up in the middle of the night overheating and this usually will keep me up for about an hour. I love that this pillowcase stays cool to the touch. Each time that I woke up hot, I’d move a few inches over onto a cool spot and noticed it would take me way less time to fall back asleep. I’m one of those people that has to have a full 8 hours of sleep or I’m not on my A-game the next day, so this was a huge plus for me!

A silk and silver pillowcase seemed like the perfect addition to my routines as it is passive care that takes place all night, every night! Before silk and silver pillowcases became a thing, I had no idea that my cotton pillowcase had the potential to wreak so much havoc on my skin and hair. Healthline shares that “The friction from cotton on pimple-prone skin can create more inflammation, making acne worse. Cotton also sops up the natural oil and bacteria from your face and hair, and that grime accumulates on your case night after night, creating a petri dish out of your pillow.” These were the words of an actual nightmare to me. I have extremely oily skin, so oily you could probably see your reflection in my face after a night of sleep. So the thought of all that building up in my pillowcase over multiple nights was a horrifying realization.

What makes silk and silver pillowcase a solution to the problem? A scientific study done by Wake Forest University concluded that people who slept on silk or silk-like pillowcases showed a reduction in pimples than those who slept on a cotton pillowcase. It has been found that “silk pillowcases absorb less of the moisture and dirt and thus may be a better choice for people with acne.” Adding silver to the pillowcase enhances antimicrobial properties of the pillowcases. Although it is not yet proven, it is believed that silver particles can puncture the cell walls of bacteria, inhibiting cellular respiration and disrupting the cells ability to replicate. What’s cool about utilizing silver in a pillowcase is that you get the benefits of silver being an antimicrobial without damaging the skin barrier. Keeping the skin barrier healthy is one of those tricky things to do when you are treating your skin for acne.

My recommendation would be, if you have any interest in hair care or skin care, give a silk and silver pillowcase a try! My hair seems smoother and less damaged and my skin is starting to clear. This, all with only two weeks of using my silk and silver pillowcase. At this rate, I’ll have transformative results in just a few weeks to come!
