For this mom, there is nothing more important in the world than making sure that her six children have everything they need in life.

The love that a mom has for her daughters and sons is truly infinite. Even though being a parent is the most rewarding job in the world, it’s definitely also the toughest one – especially if you’re in a difficult situation that you can’t seem to get out of and have no one to help you out.

Even if everyone looks okay to the outside world, a lot of families are actually struggling and barely able to make ends meet, which was the case for this mom who lived with her six kids in an apartment.

Thanks to the intervention by two police officers, the lives of this family were changed forever, and it all started with a simple ‘hello’ by their two-year-old girl.

Officer Reneeshia McIntrye and her partner Delia Pesina, on the right and left side of the picture below, respectively, were actually in the neighborhood of this family and met them by accident.

They received a non-urgent call from the apartment complex in Dallas where they lived and met a two-year-old girl who was very friendly and eager to make conversation.

After talking with the small girl for a little while, these two police officers immediately knew that something wasn’t right.

The little girl was talking about her mom, and how she just moved out from her abusive ex-partner to this new apartment along with the girl’s five siblings.

All of the kids were under the age of twelve years old and required a lot of care and attention. Even under the most perfect circumstances, taking care of six children at the same time can be very time-consuming and demanding, and this woman had to do it all by herself.

Mom left her ex because he was physically abusive. She needed to get out of there, for her safety and for the kids’.

The two police officers still recall their encounter with the little girl.

“That 2-year old invited us over and mom started talking to us and one thing led to another…I asked mom how long they had been living there and she stated ‘a few months’ my first instinct was they had just moved in because there was literally nothing in the apartment,” they said to CBS.

The situation was very dire, and their apartment basically had nothing in it. They weren’t living, they were surviving.

“She literally was washing styrofoam plates…” Officer McIntyre said.

When these two police officers left the building, they looked at each other and knew that they needed to make something happen for this struggling family.

“We kind of read each other‘s minds. You’re partners after so long and when we were leaving I immediately said to her ‘o we’re coming back, aren’t we? We were going to take care of it’.”

After all, taking care of the people of their community is part of their job description.

When they arrived at the precinct, they informed all of their co-workers and collected money to buy essential furniture for the poor family.

They budgeted in beds and mattresses, cribs, a sofa, organizers, pillows… Everything a family of six would need to live, as they had none of that.

The support from the fellow police workers was absolutely astonishing, how they donated their money without hesitation.

It didn’t end there – a lot of officers also volunteered to move around some furniture and help around in their home makeover!

After a couple of trips to all kinds of furniture stores, a team of police officers was ready to make this family’s life a lot more comfortable and transform their home.

“I can’t see everybody, but I thank y’all so much. I love y’all so much from the bottom of my heart,” the mom later said in an interview with CBS11 about the generous gesture.

According to Officer McIntrye, the officers were holding back tears when the kids discovered their new bedroom.

It was an absolutely heartfelt and emotional moment, and the look on their faces truly said it all.

“We told the children ‘this is where you’re going to be sleeping.’ The excitement on their face was so heartfelt we had to fight back tears.”

Aside from going to the furniture store, they also made a quick stop at a grocery store to grab $250 worth of food and drinks for the family.

For both Officer McIntrye and Officer Pesina, seeing a family in a difficult situation like this made them relate to their own experiences in the past.

Officer Pesina escaped an abusive household situation when she was younger and remembers how much of a positive impact police officers had on her life as a child. She wanted nothing less than be able to pay it forward.

“I can relate to the kids and I had officers impact me when I was little,” she told.

When they were asked why they put in so much effort to transform the home and lives of this family, Officer McIntrye had a heartfelt response.

“For me, it’s part of my job description. It’s part of my heart,” she concluded.

What an absolutely amazing and heartwarming story, one that all started with a simple ‘hello’.

It’s perfect proof that giving others a helping hand, even when they’re complete strangers, can have such a huge impact on their lives.
