Forgetting your wallet, it can truly happen to the best of us. It’s not exactly a major issue unless you’re standing in line waiting for your coffee.
That’s exactly what happened to this man at a Wawa’s restaurant, but luckily, one of the other shoppers waiting in line was more than willing to help him out and give him some coffee money.
It turns out, however, that the man in question was actually Keith Urban!
The person who gave him some coffee money was Ruth Reed. She and her husband are known to be very generous people, and they actively support and donate to veterans and related organizations.
Sometimes, Ruth will even sit in a Dunkin’ Donuts or Wawa’s restaurant to pick up the tabs of strangers.
Helping out other people is definitely in Ruth’s blood, she simply enjoys paying it forward and realizes that the world could use some kindness. She actually started her lovely habit of paying for strangers’ bills as a new year’s resolution she made way back.
Helping out other people makes you feel good, and there’s actually some science to that.
It’s called the “Helper’s High”, and it occurs when someone does something for another person, even if it’s a complete stranger.
These acts of kindness or generosity actually release endorphins in the body, which are known to help deal with stress and improve our moods. In other words, being kind and helpful to someone can really be beneficial for yourself, even and especially if you expect nothing in return from that person.
Ruth’s recent encounter at the store with Keith Urban – a country music pop star – is one she won’t forget.
Apparently, the man was just ready to pay for his coffee, but he didn’t have enough cash with him. Ruth was standing right behind him and overheard the conversation, and she immediately jumped in.
“I’ve got it,” she proclaimed.
Urban tried to refuse the kind offer, but Ruth insisted on helping.
Ruth, a retired elementary school teacher, didn’t realize that it was Keith Urban standing right in front of her. They did chat a little bit and introduced themselves, but Ruth’s bell didn’t ring, even though she did think that the man looked quite familiar.
The man then revealed his identity, but Ruth refused to believe it.
After all, what are the chances that a music pop star would be going to Ruth’s favorite store?
When she spotted his bodyguards, Ruth realized that he was telling the truth!
She was completely shocked and didn’t want to believe it at first, but it all became clear and she managed to compose herself. Of course, Urban was more than willing to take a cute picture with the kind lady who helped him get his morning coffee.
Because of this encounter, Ruth has become quite the internet sensation.
Ruth was invited to the Pickler & Ben show by its hosts Kellie Pickler and Ben Aaron, and the audience absolutely loved her story!
Because of this small act of kindness, Ruth now found herself on national television – it really shows how far an act of kindness can truly go.
