If you are like those people who love their moms so much, I’m sure that one of the things that you pray for is for them to live longer.
The idea of losing a mom is unimaginable and my heart goes to those who are no longer with their mothers.
Now if your mom is still with you, you are beyond blessed.
What’s more amazing is you can contribute to making her live longer. And that’s by giving more of your time for her.
This is according to studies conducted by the Department of Medicine at the University of California, San Francisco.
The impact of loneliness on our older loved ones is big.
Have you noticed that elders need more attention and proper care? This includes our mothers.
Every mom surely wants to spend most of their time with their kids.
And they would be more than happy if we would always bond with them. If we fail to do so, of course, the effect would be a lot different. They would probably be lonely – which can cause them to be distressed.
According to the study, this is more prone to those who are 60 years old and older.
There are 1,604 eligible participants in this study and they find that, despite differences in the participants’ background, the effect of loneliness on senior citizens’ health is huge.
“Loneliness was associated with an increased risk of death.”
This is the result of the study.
And loneliness may also be a big factor in adverse health outcomes for older people.
Another research claims that loneliness and social isolation are linked to higher risks for several medical conditions like heart disease, Alzheimer’s disease, depression, cognitive decline, and the list goes on.
We should keep in mind that there are a lot of instances where our older loved ones could feel lonely.
The first one is when they don’t feel that they belong.
So it’s important to make them feel the other way around. For our mothers, we should always acknowledge what they feel and take the time to listen to them.
The second is when they feel isolated and they lack companionship.
This usually happens when an elder lives alone. The feeling may be worse when no one visits them regularly.
Therefore, we should keep in mind that spending our time with our mothers makes them the happiest.
Is it difficult to spend time with our moms?
It would always be different for every individual. There some people who probably find this easy. While there are also children who might see this as a challenging task.
Whichever your take is, I hope that you try your best to bond with your mom.
We should note that it doesn’t have to be fancy.
Even the simplest activity would be enjoyable for them so long as they do it with you. Even when you’re just talking to them or listening to them, it makes their hearts joyful.
Keep in mind that not all kids still have the chance to do these things even when they badly want to. Some have no choice but to accept the fact that their moms are no longer with them.
So you better cherish the chance that you have.
