When students at the Christ Presbyterian Academy in Nashville, Tennessee began to see one of their teachers less and less often, they took matters into their own hands to change that.
Christ Presbyterian Academy teacher Ben Ellis slowly began having trouble leaving his house due to cancer. Fighting the disease off, Ben had to stop coming in and teaching his classes.
“Today, on a spur of the moment decision, our entire high school (400+ students plus HS faculty) boarded busses and cars, and went to the home of Ben Ellis. Ben is a beloved teacher, a father to several of our students, a friend to all, and most importantly, a follower of Christ,” said student Leslie Ponder.
The Christ Presbyterian Academy student body of over 400 would not take that sitting down though. Gathering all the students and faculty members to meet at his house, Ben was surprised to find his entire school at his doorstep.
“Today, Ben needed some encouragement so our HS students stood in his driveway and sang worship songs of praise with him,” Leslie added.
Gathering the entire school to come to his doorstep, the Christ Presbyterian Academy sang hymns and religious songs in spirit of Ben’s bravery as he battles cancer.
“This is one of the many things I love about CPA..they will stop “education” for a bigger lesson..a lesson of life, of love, of compassion, of community. Today these students learned more than they would have in a classroom,” Leslie wrote in a Facebook post.
It is truly amazing to see a school so tightly knit. These students and faculty members truly respected and loved Ben, and they showed it by showing up and raising his spirits while he was in the comfort of his own home.
This incredible act was noticed by country music singer Tim McGraw, who shared the video on social media as well and sent his prayers along to Ben and his family.
Hopefully Ben can fight through the cancer soon and reunite with the students and faculty that miss him so much!
