Many a time have we been stared at while sitting at a cafe, on the subway or on the street, and we often pretend we don’t realize it.
Also, people often tend to look at your phone when you’re texting or playing a game- even subconsciously. And, again we pretend nothing’s happening.
The above are common in every city and every town around the world- it’s probably part of human nature to be curious about what the person next to us is doing.
Now, imagine how much more common this phenomenon is in bigger cities and metropoles, like New York.
A man was spotted a few months ago on the subway of the Big Apple.
He was just riding the metro that day, casually holding his phone and having his earphones in. He had probably gone for a run or was headed there, listening to his favorite music and playing a fun game on his phone to kill time.
While he was not paying attention to what was going on around him, a little boy sitting next to him was staring at his phone, attracted by the game he was playing.
Next to the boy, a grown-up woman- possibly his mother- was not paying attention to what her son was doing either.
The man, at some point, probably felt the small eyes piercing him, and turned his head looking at the boy. The boy was a bit nervous when he was caught staring at his phone. A few moments later, the man forgot about it and returned to his game.
Still, the boy couldn’t take his eyes off of it. And that’s when the man did something admirable.
He unplugged his earphones and handed the phone to the little boy, giving him the chance to enjoy the game, too.
The boy didn’t think twice. He took the phone in his hands and immediately started playing the game that had caught his attention for quite some time!
His mom didn’t seem to realize what happened.
The thing is that both the man and the boy had no idea they were being filmed, but, luckily, a woman sitting opposite them, recorded the whole thing and posted it on social media so that everyone could see it.
The man who gave his phone to the little boy apparently considered his action as nothing special, as something that anyone would do if they had the chance. But, let’s be honest, not everyone would. Maybe even some people would be bothered by the little guy staring at their phone.
But not this man.
This video really restores our faith in humanity. It proves that there still are people out there who want to spread joy around them, and are selfless enough to sacrifice some minutes from their lives to give happiness to another person that needs it at that moment.
Since it was uploaded, the video has been viewed 4 million times and we hope it will be viewed even more and ideally reach that man somehow. He deserves recognition for his act of kindness and he is really setting an example for all of us, even without knowing it.
