When Katie saw her marriage end in her early 30s, her whole world was probably shattered, realizing that she wouldn’t have a family of her own any time soon. But, somehow, she found the courage and determination to pick up the pieces.
She moved into a new home, changed career paths, and made the most important decision in her life: she would become a foster mother. Katie had always wanted to be a mom, but after facing infertility issues in the past, the idea of adoption had always seemed like an alternative to her.
In 2016, after collaborating with a caseworker, it was finally time for her to foster her first child, young Grayson. The boy was 4 days old and had been dropped off at the local hospital. Katie became a foster mother for the first time and, after 11 months in foster care, Grayson was ready to be adopted by her. Katie was the happiest person in the whole world. She loved the little boy and was sure they would be a great family.
Although she had thoughts of adopting a second child, she first wanted to spend some time with Grayson alone, settle in the new reality of them as an “official family”, let him grow up a little bit, and then possibly adopt again.
But, it seems, life had other plans for them.
Only about a month later, Katie received a phone call from another caseworker. She was told that there was a little girl that had been dropped off at the same hospital as Grayson, and she was in need of a home.
While Katie knew that this wasn’t in her plans, and she wasn’t sure it was a wise decision, something inside her was telling her to say “yes”.
“I know over the next 10 minutes and subsequent phone calls I made that afternoon, the phrase ‘I know I am crazy, but God is telling me to say YES’ kept coming out of my mouth,” she explained.
So, she took in the little girl, and then she realized the miracle that was unfolding before her eyes.
When Katie looked at Hanna’s hospital bracelet, she realized her biological mother’s first name was the same as Grayson’s mother’s. She decided to dig into the matter a little further and found out Hanna’s mother had shared the same birth date as Grayson’s mom. Could this be a coincidence?
Eventually, Katie tracked down Hanna’s mother and realized she was indeed Grayson’s mother as well. This was a miracle that Katie understood would have never been fulfilled if she hadn’t accepted to foster the little girl. The three of them would be a family from then on.
In 2018, Katie officially adopted Hanna and now the three of them are one inseparable team.
Not too long after, another member, little Jackson, came into their lives as well. Jackson may be the third baby adopted by Katie and added to their beautiful, growing family.
What a beautiful, heartwarming story, and what an amazing family brought together by love!
