These are truly unprecedented times we live in, and 2020 will be a year nobody will ever forget. The coronavirus pandemic has made such a giant impact on humans and on society, and it has truly made the world a different place in a negative way.

Aside from the millions of people that have to deal with the scary and novel disease, there are also a ton of people who were forced to leave their jobs.

Hundreds of thousands of people were fired, including this person from Franklin, Indiana. The financial situation was so severe for the person, that they had to let go of their trusty canine.

While a lot of people have simply abandoned their pets and sometimes literally threw them on the streets, the best thing you can do is get in touch with a shelter. It’s also the only right and humane thing to do because then you’ll at least know they’re safe.

It’s a heartbreaking decision, but sometimes it’s the best thing to do for the animal as well.

Tragically, that didn’t seem to happen with this dog. She was abandoned on the streets for unknown reasons. Perhaps the owner was too scared to make the trip to the shelter because of the severity of the pandemic.

However, the dog was carrying a note on him the entire time from the previous owner, which says a little bit about the pooch and how amazing she is.

The note revealed that this abandoned dog listens to the name Roadie.

The message was also wrapped up in a bottle and tied around the Roadie’s neck.

Luckily, the young German Shepherd mix was quickly found by someone who was passing by, and the message in a bottle was the first thing they noticed.

This passerby then quickly called for help at the Johnson County Animal Control. The director of the animal organization, Michael Delp, came to the scene to rescue the pooch personally.

He recalls reading the heartfelt note, where Roadie’s previous owner explained that he came from a loving home, but it became impossible to provide for her anymore.

“When I read the note, [I felt] two emotions: one, if it is legit, my heart goes out to that individual,” Michael said to The Dodo. “If it was not legit, [I felt] anger that someone would manufacture an excuse to abandon their dog that was designed to elicit sympathy.”

“As it turns out, from our investigation, the note was completely legit. We were able to ascertain who the owner was and get that individual the help that was desperately needed.”

Luckily, Roadie was still in good health and spirits, and after a short stay at the shelter, she found a new home again sooner than everybody thought.

When Roadie’s story was highlighted on the local news, it captured the attention of Jeremy Pell.

The man works as the chief of the local fire department and is also a reserve deputy for the Sheriff’s office. He figured that Roadie, being a German Shepherd mix, would be a perfect contender to be a K9 dog.

“I opened up the news and saw Roadie,” Jeremy said. “I saw the breed and the story and the fact that she is literally in my backyard.”

After a visit to the shelter, it didn’t take long before these two started bonding. Jeremy knew that Roadie would require a lot of training, but they were determined to make it work.

“She’s bonded to me,” he told. “She looks to me for guidance and acceptance and she tries to do her job. She thinks that she should bark at people she doesn’t know, but when I tell her that it’s OK … I get these soulful, caring eyes and it’s almost as if she’s apologizing. She will sit beautifully, look me in the eye, lay her ears down and very slowly lift her paw up to touch me.”

The dog became a part of the family, and Jeremy also gave her a new name.

“All our dogs have middle names, so she’s Rosie Grace,” he said with pride, “because it’s by God’s grace that she was found and got a new career, and we’re hoping to take her from rescued to rescuer.”
Thanks to this message in a bottle, this four-footer now has a warm and loving home again!
