If you love baseball, then you’d be surprised that lefties make amazing baseball players!
Not just that, some say they do exceptionally good at any sports such as tennis, swimming, fencing, and yes, even boxing!
Manny Pacquiao, who is ranked as the world’s seventh-best active boxer, pound-for-pound, and the world’s third-best active welterweight by the different boxing institutions such as ESPN, TBRB, The Ring, and BoxRec is actually left-handed.
If you are not impressed yet, did you know that left-handed people are known to be artistic and innovative?
According to the research that was done by the American Journal of Psychology, they have found that left-handed people were actually better at divergent thinking!
No wonder! Maybe that’s the reason why eight U.S. Presidents were left-handed!
James A. Garfield, Herbert Hoover, Harry S. Truman, Gerald Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton, and Barack Obama were all left-handed!
Lefties are also known to be excellent in multi-tasking!
This research was done by the Illinois Research Consortium last 2008. In their research, it showed that left and right-handed people have different ways of dealing with memory and task performances.
Now, right-handed people break down the problems into different parts and then solve them one at a time. Left-handed people analyze the problem as a whole and then solve it.
Lastly, did you know that August 13 is International Left-Handed Day?
Yes! You can actually be proud and celebrate being left-handed. You’re not alone, and if you know how great being left-handed is, then you’d even be able to inspire people!
Now that you know some of the perks and awesome facts about lefties, then you might wonder if one of your kids is one. Well, these are some of the most common signs that will predict if your child is left-handed:
- Check which hand does your child prefers when using a spoon.
- Check if your child often kicks using his left foot.
- Check if your child prefers to hold a crayon or pencil using the left hand.
If your child shows some of these signs, then congratulations! Your kid might belong to the 15% of our population who are left-handed.
Remember, there’s nothing wrong with being left-handed, so instead of correcting your child, help them explore and embrace this uniqueness.
