Unfortunately, not every four-footer out there gets to have a warm and loving home, and some of them are even abandoned by their previous owners. While there are definitely severe cases of animal abuse and people who don’t care about their four-footers at all, some owners simply abandon dogs because they’ve got no other option.
Going to the shelter is the best and only way to do so, but sometimes people panic and just leave their pooch out in the open, hoping that someone would take care of them.
One day, an adorable puppy named Max was left behind at a public park by his owner.
The young dog was tied down, so he couldn’t escape. Max didn’t have any food or water with him, but his owner must’ve figured that someone would be able to rescue him in time.
The owner also left a note on the park bench, weighed down by a large rock.
Of course, the dog itself was also very confused, angry, and worried. He had no idea why he was dumped in the park in such a manner, and he wasn’t particularly friendly towards anyone who came close to him either.
Every veterinarian would agree that this animal was simply in major distress.
Usually, when a family’s financial situation changes for the worse, pets are the first ones who have to deal with the consequences. How tragic it may be, sometimes owners simply can’t afford to take care of them anymore and feel like there are no other options.
Evidently, the proper thing to do would be going to an animal shelter, but that’s clearly not what happened to Max in Coyoacán, Mexico.
Luckily, it didn’t take long before someone called for help.
Animal rescuers Marcela Goldberg and Azul Galindo quickly. Marcela still recalls how strangers would gather and take care of the dog.

“There were already several neighbors gathered who had brought him water and food because they left him tied to the bench with nothing,” she said to The Dodo. “But they could not get close because the puppy was terrified, growling and snipping.”
Unfortunately, a pet being abandoned is something that Marcela has seen too many times, especially during times of COVID. Families can no longer afford to take care of their pooches and hope that another family takes them in.
The golden retriever puppy was accompanied by a note, and it makes it evidently clear that this wasn’t a decision taken lightly.
“Hi, please adopt me: Max. Please, I ask that you adopt this cute dog and you take good care of him. It hurts a lot to leave my dog here but I made the decision of leaving him because my family used to mistreat him and it would always hurt me to see him in that condition. If you’re reading this and your heart wavers, please adopt him and take good care of him. If not, please leave this note in its place. That way others can read it and adopt him. Thank you.”
When the rescuers arrived, they wanted Max to have a medical check-up as soon as possible and also learn a little bit about him, especially since he was quite scared at the park.
Even a food distraction didn’t really help to comfort him.
Luckily, Marcela asked for some expert help.
“We contacted a trainer with experience in aggressive dogs who watched the situation by video call and gave me instructions until we managed to pass the loop [over his head] and cut the other chain,” she said.
Immediately after, Max actually started calming down.
He was taken to the animal shelter for his check-up and remained there for a while.

Luckily, his stay at the shelter probably won’t be a lengthy one, as Max’s story has gathered attention around the world.
He really opened up and became a friendly and loving pooch, who was also given a new name.

“With patience, sausage and love, the beast became a beautiful puppy recharging while laying on my hand and body and sitting next to me. He will no longer be called Max, as his name appears in the note, because he awaits a new life without any trace of his past life of abuse and neglect.”
“Now it will be Boston, which is the name we chose for the pit they abandoned in an apartment and eventually returned to with its owner. From this moment on, there will only be love in Boston’s life.”

Plenty of families have already offered to foster and even adopt the pup, and the shelter staff is confident that Boston will find his loving forever home.
