What circumstances would you go above and beyond to help someone else? Well, in an unlikely situation, a team of police officers do just that, and perform a generous act for an old widow in her time of need. Here’s the story.
One day, in Glendale, Arizona, a group of police officers received a distress call from Geraldeine, an old lady whose husband had passed away earlier that morning. The officers quickly responded and arrived to her house. While they were there, the officers did their best to comfort Geraldeine, and also alert the paramedics to take the husband to the hospital. During this whole ordeal, the police sergeant, Jeff Turney, also noticed the damaged front door. The door is unable to lock and it is clear that the broken door is not safe for the lady nor her house.
Quick on their feet, the officers decided to fix the door themselves. The police sergeant stopped by a local store, picked up the necessary tools, and returned to the house. There, the team of officers helped replace the door with a brand new lock. Geraldeine just happened to see the officers replacing her lock, which was the last thing she expected. “They have enough, a big job taking care of us out there, they don’t need to you know, and I really do appreciate it(.)”, she said.
The job description of a police officer is not to repair door locks, these officers made sure to help in any way they could. Sergeant Turney says “I’ve seen a lot of people in trouble and we try to help them one at a time(.)”.
The police officers did what they could to best comfort Geraldeine, and although it will not remove her sufferings from losing her husband, she is able to rest easier knowing that her house is safe.
At a time when tensions between police officers and civilians are high across the United States, a story like this reminds us that good police officers are to be trusted and appreciated.
