If you’re always stressed out about being punctual, this study might make you rethink that.

Everyone has at least one person in their life who is late all the time, no matter what the event or plan is, they always seem to show up after they said they would. Although it can be frustrating at times, a new scientific study suggests that people who are late to everything might actually live happier and longer lives.

If you’ve ever noticed that your friend or family member who is always late doesn’t seem to be too concerned with time, it’s probably true.

It might even be you who is always the late one, and if it is then you know this first hand.

It’s no secret that stress is unhealthy in various ways, and people who are always late seem to be less stressed about timelines thus making them more relaxed in general.

Having less stressed can lead to lower blood pressure, less chance of stroke and many other health benefits.

Another trait found in late people is optimism, and according to researchers at Harvard Medical School, this can also prolong their lives.

Author of Never Late Again, Diana DeLonzor writes about how late people tend to be optimistic and unrealistic in the book.

This would mean that your late friends or family actually believe they’ll be able to get the ridiculous amount of errands done in an unrealistic amount of time. That would explain why they do it over and over again.

This kind of optimism can seriously help your health, according to researchers at the Harvard Medical School.

According to the study:

“More impressive is the impact of a positive outlook on overall health and longevity. Research tells us that an optimistic outlook early in life can predict better health and a lower rate of death during follow-up periods of 15 to 40 years.”

Depending on why they’re always tardy, late people might even have traits that can help them get ahead in their careers.

Time management specialist Dr. Linda Sapadin suggests that some people are always late because they’re perfectionists, they can’t leave something incomplete or below average.

This can transfer over to the work-world and be desirable attributes for an employee to have.

On top of the low stress, optimism and good work ethic, there is another trait that’s easily overlooked that chronically tardy people may potentially have.

Some people are constantly tardy because they’re passionate, they simply get caught up in the moment and lose track of time when doing what they love.

It’s much easier to stick with something and become successful if you’re doing something you truly love and are passionate about. So if your friend/family who is always late gets distracted by passion it probably isn’t a bad thing.

Many of the most successful people in the world have drawn parallels between being passionate about what you do and success.

So if your always-tardy friend is late because they’re caught up in what they love to do you might want to take a pointer or two from them.

At times it can be annoying to be waiting on people who are always late, but it may be time to take into consideration the reasons behind their tardiness.

Who knows, if you follow their lead maybe it can even help benefit your health.
