Pandas are those large, cuddly creatures that leave lots of animal lovers around the world wanting to hug one. It’s not like we can always see these creatures though so whenever a video pops up, it leaves viewers wanting more.
One video that’s spread like wildfire involves a panda cub that’s wandered free outside of his cage. The fur ball’s name is Cheng Lan and the adorable creature can be seen taking little baby steps on the concrete floor.
The Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a non-profit organization located in Chengdu, Sichuan, China. It’s a conservation, research, breeding and education base founded in 1987 that focuses on pandas and other rare animals.
There is a lot of scientific work done at the facility. But it’s the candid, behind the scenes ones that people enjoy.
An employee from the Chengdu Research Base is in the same room doing her work, but doesn’t at all seem too concerned that the baby is loose. She fiddles with a hose without paying much attention to the cute cub. Although, there’s another creature in the room who does seem concerned that Cheng Lan isn’t where he should be.
Of course it’s mama panda!
Mama Cheng Da is behind her bars when she zeros in on the cub. She heads on down to the end of the cage to try and reach her son, but being an adult female, there’s no way she’s getting through the bar openings. Mama is huge!
Mama panda Cheng Da stands there watching little Cheng Lan who’s only moving as fast as his limbs allow. She can’t get to him though and it looks like she wants the employee to grab her little one.
Finally, as if the woman can sense Cheng Da’s concern, she goes and swoops up the cub. She then takes him and pushes him through the bars into the pen. Cheng Da is right there waiting for her child.
As soon as the worker pushes the little one in, mama takes over and grabs him by his fur. Someone’s in big trouble…
The mommy panda then drags her “naughty” son to the back of the cage and sits with her back towards the camera. You cannot see the little cub but imagine what mama panda’s sermon was like. Poor cub!
Now, it’s unclear what happened after that – but people have left some pretty hilarious comments in response to the viral scene, which seems relatable to parenting.

According to National Geographic, the giant panda will eat 12 hours a day and needs to consume 28-lbs of bamboo to meet dietary needs. They’ll also occasionally eat rodents or birds too. That’s a lot of calories. No wonder they get so naughty.
