Like any other sport, soccer has its fair share of very aggressive fans. Sometimes, the thrill of the games can make situations tense and heated, often detracting from the fun.
Den Haag fans were urged to bring stuffed toys in support for visiting Sophia Children’s Hospital patients. Den Haag fans were told to throw these toys down below and shower the Feyenoord fans coming from the hospital in colorful and soft stuffed animals.
Awaiting the children’s arrival on the field, the Den Haag fans waited to be signaled so they could unleash the massive amount of stuffed animals they had collected.
As soon as the children made their on the field, the Den Haag fans through their stuffed animals in the air, creating a shower of fuzzy colors.
In hopes of having a nice day for the visiting Sophia Children’s Hospital patients, Feyenoord club released an announcement saying “Feyenoord hopes that all children and staff can enjoy a carefree day at De Kuip.”
Thinking on their feet, the Feyenoord club posted on Twitter before the game urging, “A call to all away supporters. Take with you a little cuddly toy to the game. Just make sure there are no hard things in the toy. So no beads and buttons, children from the Sophia Children’s Hospital will be under us in the away end.”
Feyenoord ended up beating Den Haag with a whopping 3-1 win. We imagine the stuffed animal shower before the game started definitely lifted the spirits of the team and children alike!
