When Courtney Mixon was waiting in line to pay for her items at the Hobby Lobby, she noticed a woman who had a very unique shirt on.

Courtney spotted the other woman wearing a black shirt with a heart with the words, “You’re looking at a rainbow!” written inside.

“I automatically knew what it meant. She had suffered a miscarriage and now she was carrying a beautiful rainbow baby. As she passed me I had to speak up. I said I love your shirt! ” Courtney wrote on a Facebook post.

Courtney learned that this woman, Autumn Safley, did indeed suffer from a miscarriage and lost her first child.

She was currently pregnant once again, but always keeps her first child in mind to this day. In this case, the rainbow actually represents the healthy pregnancy that is supposed to follow one or more miscarriages.

“She replied that her husband was hesitant for her to wear it ( because people wouldn’t know what it meant) I then told her it’s so taboo to talk about miscarriages and I was proud of her for wearing it. I told her my story and she told me hers. We hugged and said we would keep each other in our prayers,” Courtney added in her post.

Having both been women who went through the pain of having their child miscarriage, Autumn and Courtney could relate on a very deep level despite only knowing each other for minutes.

“As I was walking into Hobby Lobby, I saw Courtney. We made eye contact and I noticed she had big tears welled in her eyes. I walked over to her and asked if I could hug her,” Autumn told Babble reporters.

Courtney commends Autumn on her bravery for being so open about what she has gone through. Having experienced two miscarriages already, the topic can be challenging for Autumn to open up about.

In fact, the day Courtney saw her in the rainbow shirt was the very first day she wore it in public!

“Miscarriage and infant loss is nothing to keep quiet about or suffer in silence with! I am thankful that walls are being torn down and awareness is being raised for this very common and very prominent issue,” Autumn explained.

This coincidental meeting between these two strong women resulted in a beautiful friendship, and both women will keep one and other in their prayers as they move forward in their lives!
