After the recent terrible events involving police officers, it’s not hard to understand why the entire police force has been the subject of controversy and scrutiny.
Of course, it’s important that the rotten eggs in the police force are dealt with, but it’s also important to remember that there are tens of thousands of police officers in the country who are worthy of wearing that badge, and never had any intention do to harm.
Luckily, there are also very positive and heartwarming stories about police officers interacting with civilians, and this is one of them that will just completely melt your heart.
It all took place after a car accident involving three vehicles in Coral Springs.
Unfortunately, there was a child involved in the crash, and the little boy had to sit on the side of the road while his parents and the other people involved were dealing with everything. Understandably, the boy was a bit in shock and not exactly calm, just like any other kid would be.
Luckily, a police officer noticed how the little boy seemed distressed, and he decided to approach him and say hello.
The officer then sat next to the young boy and tried to comfort him as best as he could.
The two were even bonding about their favorite Disney characters, and it didn’t take long before the boy was calm and comfortable again.
The lengthy conversation, even though it was a small gesture by the police officer, really went a long way for the little boy. It was a very welcome distraction from the chaotic and stressful event that just transpired.
Janet Balestreiro was involved in the accident and decided to share a post on the Facebook page of Coral Springs PD. She noticed how the police officer tended to the little boy, and wanted to share the heartwarming moment.
“Car Accidents can be scary… especially when it’s your first,” Janet wrote.
“Driving home today we were involved in a 3 car accident. Coral Springs Fire Department and Coral Springs Police where [sic] on the scene in minutes. There were some minor injuries that were tended to.
“As we sat waiting for the paperwork to be completed and the tow trucks to arrive, I hear an officer say let’s sit over on the curb. He was talking to this little boy that was upset at seeing his car all banged up.”
The woman will never forget this amazing and kind encounter.
According to her, the officer did an absolutely perfect job of keeping the little boy calm. With his gentle voice, he instantly reassured the boy that everything would be okay.
After the numerous talks about their favorite Disney characters and movies (and there’s a lot of them to talk about), the officer even played along with the boy’s toy fire truck.
This whole stressful and chaotic accident was forgotten for a while, and that’s what matters.
“I found myself smiling at that scene wondering if anyone else even noticed this Officer’s kindness. Just wanted to say thank all the Officers and Fire Rescue that showed up today. It’s good to know you are there. ❤🚓❤🚒❤” she added.
The Coral Springs Police Department actually posted a response, and they praised Officer Bryan Dougherty for his actions.

“Yesterday we received a message from Janet B. about an interaction between one of our smallest residents and an officer,” they posted.
“It warms our hearts when our residents share the good work our family is doing out in the field. We are so grateful to see it through your eyes and be able to recognize those that are caught showing their best during someone else’s time of need. Thank you, Janet, for sharing this with our department. We are so very appreciative of all the love and support from you and our community.”
Janet was delighted that the man was identified and people could thank him in person, even though the man would say he was just doing his job. As Janet beautifully says:
“I try to find a little kindness every day in a world that’s gone crazy.”
That was most definitely the case here!
