In 2012, Melissa Dohme was stabbed by her boyfriend 32 times in an unspeakable act of violence.

She underwent multiple surgeries, which included scar excision and revision surgery, and her ex-boyfriend, Robert Lee Burton Jr. pleaded guilty to attempted murder and was sentenced to life in prison without a chance for parole.

After she started to recover from her physical wounds, she had a chance encounter with Cameron Hill, a Firefighter-paramedic who was one of the first to respond to her emergency situation, at a local church. They hit it right off and soon became inseparable. By 2013, she claims they were happily in love.

During this time, she also became a big advocate against domestic abuse, most notably working as a voice for Break the Silence. It was through her work (or so she thought) that she was invited to Tampa Bay Rays baseball game to throw the first pitch.

What she didn’t know was that Hill had arranged the entire event so that he could come out and ask her for her hand in marriage. Before her first throw, he surprised her at the event and popped the question in front of the audience. She immediately said yes!

The young woman has endured so much in her life, and it was great to see that despite everything, she’s been able to meet her future husband and lead a healthy and happy life! The happy couple prove that there can be a light at the end of a tunnel and showcased the power of love through their beautiful relationship!
