You know it’s not fair to “judge a book by its cover”, but unfortunately we do- more often than not.
Tattoos, crazy hair colors, unusual accessories and clothes, they all affect in a way how we perceive the people around us, even if they really don’t reveal much about their identity and true personality.
One of the features that play an important role in how we perceive others, and men in particular, is their facial hair.
Whether they have a clean shaved face, a light stubble, heavy stubble or a full beard, we are bound to jump to conclusions about these men without even talking to them once.
Research has shown that men who have stubble or beard are considered to be more masculine and mature. Apparently, maturity has to do with the fact that younger males can’t grow a beard, while masculinity has to do with higher male hormones associated with the growth of facial hair.
At the same time, studies have revealed that women find men with a heavy stubble to be more attractive, while bearded men are thought to be better parents.
However, while masculinity, maturity, and good parenting skills are all positive traits associated with beards, men with excessive facial hair are also in many cases considered to be more aggressive and dominant than others who have clean, hairless faces.
When Jon and Eva started their two-year journey around the world, he just had light stubble. Then, as time went by, his facial hair started growing into heavy stubble and it eventually became a full beard, but he didn’t feel like touching a razor.
The couple visited many countries together and during their journey in a way, they also documented Jon’s beard growing. Until last year, when he decided to surprise his partner with a makeover.
Jon visited a barber, determined to get rid of the extra facial hair, which he probably had gotten tired of after so many months.
Removing the long ginger beard was not an easy task.
The barber had to divide it into chunks- as many as seven of them- and then cut each one off using scissors. Then it was razor time. Using an electric razor, the barber removed the remaining hair and what Jon was then left with was a luscious mustache.
After looking at himself in the mirror for a while, Jon was eventually ready to say goodbye to the mustache, too. And so he did.
But that was not all. Along with the facial hair that had grown over those two years of traveling adventure, Jon’s hair had also gotten quite long. Probably longer than he wished. So, it was time to have it cut as well.
The barber chopped off the long ponytail, and then used scissors and an electric razor to give Jon a nice, clean-looking haircut he so much needed.
When this was all done, Jon also shaved his face to remove any hairs, and it was then time to surprise Eva.
When he got home, Eva could hardly believe it was Jon she was looking at! It was such a dramatic change, but she loved it!
Jon also video-called his parents and it seems it took them some time before they realized he had changed so much.
