Architecture can be really innovative and brilliant in a lot of ways, and the recent trend of living in tiny homes really shows that you can do amazing things with a limited amount of space.
Christian decided to buy an old apartment that desperately needed some renovations, and he decided to transform the 250 square foot place into an incredible compact living space that uses a lot of folding mechanisms to make sure he has everything he needs.
Christian actually grew up on a lake, and ever since he was a child, he’s been using fold-up elements for furniture and sleeping spaces.
Even though a lot of people would love nothing more than a bunch of open space, for Christian, greatness comes in small packages.
He was also inspired by the Japanse style of architecture and interior design and managed to integrate both design elements into a compact room that gives the illusion of having a ton of free space.
Christian knew what he wanted and had big plans. He enlisted the help of Barbara Appolloni, a veteran architect, to build the tiny apartment of his dreams.
In a YouTube video, the man gives us all a tour of his new place, and it’s just simply amazing to see!
It all starts at the entrance.
First impressions definitely matter, but when you see this apartment in Barcelona for the first time, you’ll probably think nothing special about it.
It’s located on the fifth floor, but the hallway staircase already gives you the impression that living here couldn’t possibly be comfortable.
When this young man saw the apartment for the first time, that was definitely the case. It was basically just a small room, not properly taken care of, no atmosphere at all, and all it had was an old bed and a mattress.
Even though prospective buyers would probably turn around and look for something else, Christian thought it was absolutely perfect.
After showing a ‘before’ picture, it’s time for the real tour.
Right away, you can see that there was a whole lot of work done, and the grim room was no more. Everything was cleaned up, and the place has a very modern and minimalistic feel to it.
On opposite sites, the walls are actually made out of cabinet doors – and that’s exactly where the magic happens.
When these walls are put to good use, the apartment changes drastically.
Of course, there are the basics that you’d expect in every home – a closet for all of your clothes and a couple of organizing drawers.
But the folding cabinets definitely have a lot more in store: there are a full-sized fridge and freezer hidden in the wall, accompanied by a compact yet fully-equipped kitchen.
Having guests over for dinner is no problem at all, just fold out the table with some chairs.
Of course, every house needs a mirror and a bed too, and these are integrated into the folding wall too without any comprises.
It shows how much space you can save with just some great architecture and ingenuity.
The bathroom is cleverly designed as well.
Next to the toilet, there’s a hidden shelf for some toilet paper. Christian’s home is filled with these kinds of hidden compartments that improve his quality of life.
While it may seem a bit complicated and overwhelming at first, Christian couldn’t live in any other way now.
Even with this compact space, Christian can do just about everything you could do in a normal apartment – it easily fits your needs depending on the situation.
The way that the bed is concealed is probably the most genius of all.
The bed can actually be pulled out from a space that ends up on the opposite side of a balcony. It’s cleverly tucked away right underneath! You can access this balcony by the stairs which conceal the mattress when it’s not being used.
And just take a look at this outdoor space!
The balcony and the roof are very cozy, and perfect for inviting guests over. In fact, Christian said that he already had a housewarming party with no less than forty people.
What an absolutely amazing apartment transformation!
