Ah, aging. A touchy subject to some, a delightful talking point for others. You’ve heard it time and again that beauty is indeed in the eye of the beholder. Truer words were never spoken; however, in an age where everything can be so easily enhanced digitally and ridiculous beauty standards keep popping up left and right, it can be hard to stick with the simple principle of being happy and content with one’s already beautiful, natural appearance.

This is especially challenging for the women who have begun to see signs of aging on their faces.

In this video, Sixty and Me founder Margaret Manning and professional celebrity makeup artist Ariane Pool virtually discuss a common problem women encounter as they age: the appearance of lines and wrinkles around the mouth.

No, there is no advice at all to opt for cosmetic surgery. It’s just fun, easy beauty hacks one can do in under a minute or two!

The professional makeup artist shares how common this ‘problem’ is and how easily women can solve this dilemma temporarily with over-the-counter beauty products. She starts by wiping off the makeup around her mouth in order to efficiently demonstrate the tricks she has up her sleeve.

“Eye cream is fabulous. What’s really cool here is you’re reinforcing a principle that there’s no use in putting heavy creams on wrinkly areas.”

The celebrity makeup artist swears by eye cream. She says you don’t have to limit the use of eye cream to your nighttime routine. Moreover, you don’t have to limit its use to just around the eye area, too!

Poole stumbled upon this hack while working with a client who had prominent lines around the mouth. She shares,

“Face moisturizer wasn’t rich and thick enough to do any kind of pumping. The eye cream… wow. I was very happy about that.”

The good thing about eye cream is that it’s lightweight, it doesn’t leave a shine on your face, and most importantly, it lasts.

Another cool trick shared by Poole is using a highlighting pen around the lips.

She doesn’t hold back on the highlighter either. The makeup expert traces generously around the lips and discusses how it positively affects your makeup.

“It accentuates the pout and the shape of your lips.”

After blending the product, use a lip-coloured lip pencil to line the outer edge of your lips and top it off with your favorite lip color.

Now that you’ve basically memorized these cool tricks, it’s time to equip yourself with knowledge on these lines. Don’t feel bad when they start to appear above your lips or around your mouth. Non-smokers get these, too!

“It’s not always because you’ve been a smoker. It can be because you pout or you move your mouth a lot, or you’re expressive.”

This can even be caused by frequently drinking through straws!
