In times of need you really find out who is there for you. Here’s a story about a Lowe’s worker, Chris Veseth, whose job is to help others find things but then finds himself on the receiving end.
Veseth is a friendly guy who always greets his customers with a bright smile and directs them to the correct area. The touching part of this story isn’t about how helpful Chris is, but it’s about his wheelchair and his community.
Veseth is confined to a wheelchair and over time it began to deteriorate. When his coworker, Dot Caloia, noticed that his wheelchair was held together by duct tape she wanted to give Chris a new wheelchair.
Coloia had a brilliant idea, setting up a Go Fund Me account for Chris’s wheelchair. She expected to receive donations from close friends, but was shocked when community members showed an overwhelming amount of support.
Caloia said, “‘Chris, I think I can set that up for you.’ And so we did it last Thursday, not having any expectations for knowing what would happen, and we met our goal by 11 that evening.”
Chris only needed $8,000, but the donations kept coming in– surpassing $25,000. When Chris found out, he was touched by the amount of support he received from his community. Veseth says, it’s so nice, and I really appreciate it.”
It’s heartwarming knowing that when Chris needed help, people joyfully extended their hands. They came together in a time of need and all made an impact on changing Veseth’s situation.
It’s even more touching when you think about how important a wheelchair is to Chris. A wheelchair is like a set of legs for Chris, he needs this in order to move around. A truly caring community.
“Chris has been with us about 17 years, and he deserves all the attention he gets based off this story,” Devine said. Coworkers say his specialty is lightbulbs, but it seems like Veseth is the bright light for everyone around him.
