How humans and animals raise their young can be quite different. There are definitely some universal truths to parenthood, however.
To a certain extent, human parents know what they are getting into, but is it the same for animals? Do animals truly know what bringing a new life into this world entails?
There is arguably nothing more precious than watching a new parent meeting their baby for the first time. That goes for humans or animals.
So naturally, when the Denver Zoo posted the below video of a male lion meeting his baby cub for the first time, people were over the moon with just how adorable it was.
The curious male lion crouches down so his face is level with his little cub’s.
The moment they shared resembled a human parent holding their baby for the first time. It makes us believe that parental love is universal.
The Denver Zoo posts “Cubdates” to Facebook once every couple of days to give people a look at what the little cubs are up to.
The video of papa lion and cub was a particularly popular part of the series. The video has been viewed over 8.6 thousand times. It was captioned with the following:
“This week’s Tatu #cubdate comes with some exciting news: the cub has met his dad, Tobias, and big sister Kamara! Already 12 lbs, this little lion is climbing up the ranks in the world – as in he literally loves climbing everything and that includes Aunt Sabi and Kamara!”
The video starts with clips of the cub playing around their enclosure.
They act very much like a typical house cat might, finding places to sit and scratching their back on a sheet of cardboard. We just wanted to dive in there with them and have a good play!
Then it was time for the moment everyone was anticipating. Papa lion was going to meet his cub for the first time. The moment couldn’t have been more perfect!
The new dad does his version of a downward-facing dog yoga pose to get at eye level with the cub. You may have seen domesticated cats in similar poses before.
This is a special moment for both father and son.
It might not be that long before the baby cub is one day a parent as well. After all, the father lion in this video is only 2 years old! Despite his young age, however, he looks like he’s going to be a terrific father to his young one.
The Denver Zoo posted the video just before the baby cub became old enough to be introduced to the public.
They wanted to make sure he was happy and well-adjusted to his surroundings before being introduced to zoo visitors. It certainly sounds as though the cub is enjoying himself and bonding well with the family.
“He’s spent the last couple months bonding with his mom (Neliah), dad (Tobias) and half-sister (Kamara) behind the scenes at Predator Ridge at Denver Zoo, and will soon make his big public debut in one of the outdoor habitats,” Jake Kubié, the director of communications, told Bored Panda. “He’s all the things you might expect of a lion cub: playful, curious and energetic!”
The video will warm your heart.
Watch it below and experience the bond between papa lion and cub.
