A lot of helpless animals often find themselves in strange and dangerous predicaments, but luckily, there are always people out there who are willing to help our furry friends.

Sometimes these are stray dogs and cats who have to rely on strangers, but sometimes they’re also pets who are a part of a family.

When pets are treated like family, their owners would do anything to save them, even at the risk of their own lives.

When this dog owner decided to take her trusty four-footer along with her on a hiking trip, she had no idea that she would have to save her pup’s life just hours later.

The woman was a part of a group of friends who planned a hiking trip to the Bridal Veil Falls in Telluride, Colorada. It’s a popular attraction for people who love nature and hiking, and it was set to be an amazing and enjoyable day outdoors.

Tragically, a terrible accident would occur not too long after they started their journey.

One of the people on the trip, a 25-year-old woman from Denver, didn’t want to leave her small four-footer at home. After all, he was still just a puppy and it wasn’t ideal if he stayed at home alone, so she brought her pooch along on the hiking trip.

Things were going well, but then the group found themselves on quite a rocky path. Even though it wasn’t an issue for the people involved, this pup clearly had more difficulties.

Soon after, a tragic incident happened that nobody expected.

The four-footer seemed to have missed his stepping, and he fell more than 15 feet to another ledge. Luckily, the pup was still alive, but understandably in shock. Not only was the dog in a panic, but everyone else was too.

The puppy’s owner realized that she couldn’t afford to panic and that she had to rescue her pup as fast as possible.

Luckily, all of her friends did their best to make sure it would be a successful rescue, and this hiking trip quickly turned into a rescue mission.

Unfortunately, the ledge wasn’t very large, and actually pretty uncomfortable for a person to climb on.

One of the woman’s friends rappeled down to the bottom, in case the dog would suddenly fall off the ledge. This was the back-up in case the unthinkable happened.

The puppy’s owner was next to climb down, but then she lost her grip.

She tried to get a hold of her puppy, but when she lost her balance, she actually fell more than 30 feet herself.

It’s a blessing that her friend was already beneath her, as he was able to break the woman’s fall and quite possibly saved her life. The two of them struggled and slid down for almost two dozen feet, while the dog still wasn’t rescued.

Luckily, emergency services arrived at the scene rather quickly, and everything ended well.

The Telluride Fire Protection District and San Miguel County Search and Rescue were able to help out and took over the whole rescue operation.

It wasn’t just a rescue for the dog anymore – these two people also needed help.

The two friends were extracted in a safe manner, but they were injured and needed to go to the hospital. Nobody suffered any severe injuries.

As for the puppy, he also made it out without any issues.

A rescuer was quickly able to get him off the dangerous ledge and get the three-month-old dog back to safety by using a safety harness.

It was quite a chaotic trip, to say the least, but thankfully, all ended well.

Even though the original rescue attempt didn’t go as planned, it’s most certainly admirable to witness such acts of bravery and selflessness to save a four-footer in need!
