You know what’s heartbreaking? It’s seeing or reading news about animals or pets being abandoned.
Some people take in an animal because it’s cute, fluffy, and adorable, but what happens when it grows up? What if they need to move to another location or if their pet becomes a little bit hard to handle?
Sadly, some people think that pets or animals are disposable.
They can just abandon them when everything gets tough or when they can’t handle them anymore. It’s just heart wrenching to see news about people leaving their pets behind.
Can you imagine the poor confused pet trying to catch up with the car, or trying to beg their owners to let them in again? It will just break anyone’s heart.
What did they ever do to their owners to deserve this?
This story is about a woman who vowed to rescue an abandoned German shepherd.
What she didn’t expect was that the German shepherd wasn’t alone.
Judy Obregon, the founder of The Abandoned Ones (TAO), an animal rescue organization, decided to go to Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth, Texas, to investigate if the reports were true. According to several reports, a homeless German shepherd was living among the trees there.
The reports were correct, there was, in fact, an abandoned German shepherd, but this rescue mission wasn’t easy.
Judy tried to come near the dog several times, but the German shepherd wasn’t very trusting. She was timid and would choose to run away every time someone attempts to get close to her.
This didn’t discourage Judy. In fact, she took this as a challenge.
“I knew it was extremely urgent to capture her,” Judy shared in her post. “Gaining trust began [with] studying her every move.”
Every day, Judy would patiently return to the area to visit the dog. She always gave her water and food, hoping that one day, the timid dog would begin to trust her. She also wanted the dog to be able to eat.
Luckily, Judy’s efforts began to pay off!
Soon, the German shepherd would run towards her every morning when she saw her truck. Judy felt that she has finally gained the dog’s trust.
She soon prepared for the day that she would finally rescue the puppy, but she was in for a surprise.
Judy was shocked when the German shepherd brought her best friend, a very scared pit bull that had scars on his face.
Seeing the poor pit bull covered with scars was just heartbreaking.
They were inseparable! The German shepherd wanted Judy to know her best friend; because she didn’t want to eat all by herself, and she didn’t want to be rescued without bringing her friend with her.
Judy had to make room for another rescue dog in her car, but she was happy.
“She made it a point: If you take me, you take my friend, too!” Judy said in her statement.
That’s how dogs are. They are loyal, they love unconditionally, and they know how to take care of each other.
No one can say if they were abandoned together, or if they just met each other in the area, but one thing’s for sure, they won’t leave without each other.
Judy decided to name the German shepherd Iris, and the Pit Bull was named Clover.
They were both rescued, and both underwent rehabilitation. Soon, they would be up for anyone who would want to foster them. Just make sure to inquire to get them both.
Seeing Iris and Clover together, safe, and now healthy is such great news. We’re hoping that these two would finally find their forever home, a home that will never abandon them again.
