Who doesn’t want to look elegant?
Experts are there to help, but while there are countless tips out there on what to wear to look elegant, like prefer all-black outfits, simple gold jewelry, or a classic coat, sometimes they’re not enough.
Besides what we need to do to look classy, we need someone to give emphasis on what we shouldn’t do in order to avoid looking “cheap” or “too juvenile”.
This is exactly what Anna Bey is talking about in the YouTube video below.
Anna Bey is giving useful advice regarding the pieces of clothing an elegant woman shouldn’t wear. Ever.
So, let’s get started. If you want to count the mistakes you make when choosing your daily outfits, then be our guest. We know we did.
1. Gym clothes
According to the fashion expert, there’s no point in wearing gym clothes outside the gym. Which, honestly, makes sense. Gym clothes were invented in order to help us feel more comfortable when we run on the treadmill, not when we go to work, or when we meet our friends at a restaurant.
Gym clothes should just limit their presence to the gym, where they naturally belong.
2. The bandage dress
Alright, so let’s get things straight. The bandage dress was introduced in the world of fashion in the 80s and it became popular in the 90s and early 00s, and that’s where it should stay: in the previous decade.
This kind of dress, according to Bey, is too tight, while it also shows too much skin. These two features are what makes it look cheap. The fact that it puts everything on display take off any elegance or class it could have.
3. Crop tops
Yes, you guessed that correctly. Anna hates crop tops. She finds them too juvenile and cheap.
However, she believes that they can be used in elegant outfits, but under certain conditions. More specifically, she says they should be worn with matching skirts or trousers. Still, we should be extra careful when choosing the latter, because they definitely need to be high-waisted.
4. Cartoon prints
Can you guess? Bingo! Too juvenile, once again!
They might look cute when you’re in middle school, but an elegant adult woman? It’s a no-no!
5. T-shirts
Now, we can smell there will be a debate here. Bey believes T-shirts are only to be worn to do household chores and by no means outside the house. Well, there are many people who won’t agree, but she might have a point.
6. Ripped-jeans
This one is self-explanatory. Who would look expensive in a pair of ripped jeans? Go buy yourself a proper one, lady!
We’re just kidding, but you get the idea. Ripped jeans are not to be worn by classy women, at least that’s what Anna Bey says.
7. Denim shorts
Now, this one is tricky. Bey says a classy woman shouldn’t wear it- especially not the too short kind. However, she does accept a pair of good quality, white shorts. We’ll just go with that, then.
8. Worn-out bags
Let’s admit it: we’ve all held our favorite bags when they were well worn out. Guess what! We shouldn’t have!
A classy lady should hold bags that are in perfect shape, no matter how expensive or not they are.
9. 90s fashion
Although Bey was a 90s kid, she confesses she never wore the clothes that were fashionable then. Honestly, the same clothes more or less are fashionable today, too. Still, an elegant woman shouldn’t even consider wearing them.
10. Wrinkled clothes
Last but not least, a classy woman should never get out with wrinkled clothes. They immediately downweigh the whole outfit and make her look lazy. At least, that’s what Bey believes.
