Dolly Parton can’t really be considered young, but she doesn’t show any signs of slowing down at the age of 74. She just released a new Christmas album in 2020 entitled A Holly Dolly Christmas. That would be her 47th studio album that she has produced solo.
This is Christmas in Rockefeller Center 2020 and before the lighting of that beautiful tree commences, Dolly graces everyone with her rendition of the song, “Mary, did you know?”
It’s for the Christmas in Rockefeller Center 2020 celebration, and before the tree lighting commences, she gives everyone a beautiful performance of the song “Mary, Did You Know?”

The show must go on!
Parton looks incredibly swell in her stunning white dress. She is accompanied by a band, and there are beautiful festive lights surrounding them all. Dolly’s friends might be choosing to slow down and do less, but Parton continues to entertain and seems to have never-ending energy.
Jennifer commented,
“I remember in past interviews she mentioned that she likes wearing white when singing songs like this because she’s singing to the Lord directly. So blessed by this performance and Dolly in general!”
“Mary Did You Know” was written in 1984
So in comparison with other Christmas songs, it’s relatively new. Mark Lowry, the composer, wrote the song after he thought about one of his conversations with his mother when he was a child. He wrote the song as if he was talking directly to Mary. Almost as if it was an interview about the life of Jesus.
It’s a modern classic that rocks every Christmas time. It’s a passionate piece, and many different artists have put their personal spin on the song. Dolly uses an acoustic guitar and sings the beautiful words:
“Mary did you know
That your baby boy will one day walk on water?
Mary did you know
That your baby boy will save our sons and daughters?”

Dolly’s version is somber and respectful, almost fit for the little baby Jesus and his mother Mary themselves. When Dolly skies for the high notes, they aren’t overpowering. But instead, they are powerful yet soft. She even whispers some of the lines.
Parton does not hide her opinions on her faith, and she is an avid Christian.
Dolly’s voice is still beautiful even at her age. All of the incredible qualities that made her famous are still there to this day. She’s such a pro on the mic!

When she needs to hit the high notes, she does and the praise and adoration that she displays is absolutely beautiful. Her singing is straight-up divine!
“One of her best performances ever imho. Dolly is healing the world, one song, one performance at a time.”
That’s according to one of her fans on YouTube
Everyone knows that this rendition is one of the best! The 74-year-old and her background singers blended beautifully with the instruments throughout the performance.
Boy, she knows how to sing!
You can find hundreds of artists covering this piece on the internet. You can rank them differently however you might want, but if Dolly’s version isn’t high up on your list you’re just doing it wrong. Don’t believe us? Listen again!
