It’s often the case that the most unexpected friendships turn out to be some of the best ones – and these two are a perfect example of that. This is the story about the incredible friendship between two four-footers, an adorable pooch, and his best bud, a cow.
Meet Rookie, the cute dog who has been living on a farm for the majority of his life.
Of course, living on the farm means he can play around in the open areas a lot, and there are always animals around to play with.
Rookie was especially fond of the cows at the farm, and his owner believes that there’s a special reason for that.
Tragically, Rookie’s mother passed away while he was still a puppy, and he seemed to gravitate towards the cows after her death. He loved spending time there and loved hanging out with one of the cows in particular, who he always saw as a mother figure.
This cow would care for Rookie as if he was one of her own, in fact, you could even say that the cow raised him.
Momma cow would spend all the time she could with Rookie – playing around, cuddling, sleeping together, they were basically inseparable. This would go on for several years, and if you couldn’t find this adorable pooch, chances are he was in the barn along with the cows.
Tragically, due to a bad financial situation, the farmer had to sell Rookie’s momma cow.
The farmer couple simply didn’t have money or time to care for both of the cows in the barn, and they were forced to sell one of them.
There was one left to take care of Rookie, but the poor dog was absolutely devastated that his other friend would have to go. He seemed to realize that he wouldn’t be able to spend as much time with her as well.
The cow was dragged outside, so the buyers could get her, and that’s when reality hit for Rookie.
Suffice it to say, the dog didn’t exactly take the separation very well and was clearly emotional when the cow was dragged outside. The poor four-footer kept barking and growling to prevent the buyer from taking her.
Rookie then ran away from the farm and followed the buyer’s vehicle with the cow.
Luckily, the cow’s new location actually wasn’t far away at all. Rookie broke into the barn just to get back his ‘mom’, so to speak, but that didn’t last long. The owner came to take Rookie back home, and he was left heartbroken.
The poor dog lost his smile, and there was nothing that would help.
Without his bovine mom round, Rookie became depressed. He didn’t want to play anymore, lost his appetite, and spent most of his days inside just laying on the ground. And when he did go outside, it was to howl and cry on the street.
At this point, not only Rookie was left heartbroken, the farmer couple was too.
They decided to do the right thing and buy the cow back, and reunite these two friends once again.
Rookie was finally happy again now that his best friend was back home!
Even though everything was good again, the farmers realized that it was a potentially dangerous situation (if something happened to the cow, for example).
They’re now trying to let Rookie socialize with other dogs so he could make some other friends as well. Nonetheless – he finally had his mom back, along with his smile.
What an absolutely beautiful relationship!
