“I’m not a makeup person.”

This is a statement that resonates with millions of women all over the world, young and old alike. And there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that. If you’re a makeup enthusiast who loves getting glammed up, good for you. If you prefer going barefaced and embracing your natural look, then good for you, too!

No judgment, no comparisons – just a celebration of individuality, beauty, and confidence.

You have to realize though, that it is still worth the celebration when these minds change and the tables turn – something that happens in the Sixty and Me community.

Sixty and Me, an online magazine and global community of women over 60, shared a fascinating makeup tutorial video on their YouTube channel. In the episode, Sixty and Me founder Margaret Manning and celebrity makeup artist Ariane Poole, feature a woman who has always preferred going without makeup but is currently looking for a solution to soften deep wrinkles and age spots.

Their guest, Devorah, explains her dilemma.

“One concern is there are nights when I don’t sleep well and that really shows. And I’d like to feel brighter and more elevated in my mood rather than just exhausted.”

As someone who has always preferred going without makeup, Devorah also recounts one experience in the makeup store wherein a certain product actually made her look ten years older. In response to this, Ariane Pool suggests using a primer – one that fills in fine lines but doesn’t feel heavy on the skin.

“Nothing is going to get rid of everything, but it’s going to diffuse it, like putting a soft focus on.”

The bubbly makeup artist also states that smiles are beautiful – they can be softened using products but shouldn’t be concealed completely.

This prompts Ariane to ask Devorah how she feels about the primer being applied on her face. Appreciating how soft and soothing the product feels on her face, Devorah continues to listen attentively as Ariane walks her through the next step: applying CC cream. Ariane made sure to use a CC Cream with SPF – a contributing factor to slowing down the formation of deep lines and wrinkles. She applied the Ariane Poole Brightening CC Cream SPF20.

Next, the eyes.

Because Devorah had perfectly-shaped brows, Ariane decided to just outline them with the Ariane Poole Brow Tint in Fawn. For the eye shadow, Ariane decided to go for the Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour in Amethyst, a color that highlighted the turquoise streak in Devorah’s eyes. Ariane also added a bit of color on the lids using the Ariane Poole Super Wear Gel Pencil.

Tip: if you’ve got redness in your eyes, stay away from brown liner and opt for charcoal instead.

After the eyeliner and shadow came the mascara. The Ariane Poole Navy Mascara was applied on Devorah’s top and bottom lashes. Blue mascara, it turns out, gives brightness and lift to the eyes, making them look whiter. Interesting! Ariane Poole Mineral Illuminating Pen in Peach was also used to highlight the corner of Devorah’s eyes.

For that subtle but flattering pop of color, Bobbi Brown Gel Blush Stick was used on Devorah’s cheeks.

This gave her a gorgeous glow!

To cap off the makeover, Ariane chose the Ariane Poole Luxury Gloss in Sugar Berry for Devorah’s lips.
