I feel like as we get older, the more times we run into the word “cancer.” It’s a disheartening topic to talk about, but it’s something that needs more awareness. The battle against cancer is cruel because it can be unforgiving. I hate talking about the topic, but this performance by Celine Dion at Stand Up To Cancer 2016 is just so emotional that I wanted to share it.
Before her performance of the song “Recovering”, Dion talks about her own personal experience with cancer. The celebrity says, “I miss Rene everyday and the loss will now be a part of my life. I also lost my father and my brother Daniel to cancer.”
There couldn’t be a more fitting tribute to Celine Dion’s husband, brother and father than performing at the Stand Up to Cancer show, a televised fund raiser event.
Losing a loved one is something that we take slowly. The recovery certainly doesn’t happen over night. After experiencing the lost of her loved ones, Dion’s life was filled with depression and grieving. It was in this difficult time that Pink (also a celebrity) helped Dion get back on her feet.
Pink wrote and offered Dion a song titled “Recovering.” The song “Recovering” was just more than a simple kind gesture from Pink. The song was meant to express “The power to stand up and stay strong [against cancer],” said Dion.
Dion said the song did so much more than just helped her get back on her feet. The song was meant to remind Dion that her pain was a process and that she is recovering from the tragic loss. Dion then proceeded to performed the song written by Pink in the most spectacular way. A beautiful tribute to everyone around the world who has lost someone to cancer.
Like i’ve said before, recovery doesn’t happen over night. It is a process which we have to take step by step, day by day.
After watching this video, we shouldn’t be saddened about the topic of cancer. We should let it ignite our compassion and remind us that these things exist. It should remind us that we can make a difference by aiding research against cancer. With research on cancer progressing, we should hope that one day, we can live in a world where cancer doesn’t exist.
