Finding yourself in the middle of a storm, there are definitely a lot more fun things in the world.
When it starts raining and the wind is getting stronger, we all just have the natural instinct to seek shelter at home. However, going home isn’t always an option for everyone, including stray cats and dogs.
Most pets are absolutely terrified of storms and will stop at nothing to find shelter.
This poor abandoned pup had nowhere to go and decided to try her luck in the middle of a cornfield.
Interestingly, a lot of animals can actually ‘sense” that a storm is approaching, much faster than humans would.
Of course, we could always listen to the forecast, but most dogs have a kind of natural storm detection system, so to speak. It’s actually quite logical: the senses of dogs far exceed that of the average human, and they can pick up small and minimal changes in weather much faster and more accurately.
If they detect that a storm is coming, you’ll often see that their behavior changes instantly. They might get into a panic, will be agitated, and will try to look for shelter.
Of course, it all varies depending on the animal and the breed, but it’s a pretty common phenomenon. Some owners even rely on their pets to predict bad weather, and this was a very common technique before weather forecasts were a thing.
This man already knew there was a storm coming, but he suddenly came across a terrified puppy on his way home.
The man who found this poor pooch actually deals with animals for a living, he works as an animal rescuer at the Dog Rescue shelter in Mladenovac, Serbia.
He noticed something moving at the side of the road, and it was this poor dog staring in front of a cornfield, desperately trying to find some sturdy and reliable shelter from the storm.
With no buildings around, the dog was in despair and made it clear to the man that she needed help.
It was actually the pooch who noticed the man first.
Her natural reaction would be to run away from him, but not this time. The dog was scared, submissive, and tried to approach the man, hoping that he’d get her somewhere safe.
She kept on wagging her tail and tried to communicate with him.
Luckily, this man had no intention of leaving this poor pup on her own and tried to get comfortable with her.
“I will never forget that cry of hers when she realized she was saved. That helpless whimper,” he recalls.
Given his experience working with animals, he immediately realized that this poor dog must’ve been abandoned by her previous owners. She was loving being petted and was desperate for attention as well.
He took her to his car, where they’d both be safe from the storm.
Coincidentally, it started pouring immediately after they were safe inside.
The man then decided to take a quick detour, and head back to the animal shelter again to provide her with a safe haven, as well as some much-needed water and food.
The poor four-footer was clearly malnourished and neglected.
She was extremely dirty and had numerous fleas and ticks covering her body.
After a nice bath, a fulfilling meal, and a blanket, the dog managed to fit in with the rest of the animals quite well.
The shelter staff also gave her a name: Lucy.
At the moment, Lucy is currently getting all the love, attention, and care she needs at a foster family, although the staff is still looking for a permanent solution.
