Having contact lens can be such a pain, but it’s better than wearing glasses. Here are some tips that will help you to make the most out of being a contact lens wearer.
1) Put Them In Right Side Up
Putting your contact lens in the wrong way isn’t dangerous but it can cause discomfort, like you have an eyelash in your eye. Before you pop them in, check to make sure they are going in the right way. If your lens looks like a smooth bowl, it’s the right side. If it’s curve is more narrow, it’s backward and you should flip it.
2) Quickest Way to Pop Contact Lenses In
Most people think to put their contact lenses in by placing the lens on the pad of your finger over your fingerprint. But doing it this way can increase the chance of you bumping into your eyelash causing your lens to fold back. This can make putting your contact lens in a 20 minutes process. You can pop them in much quicker by placing the lens on the very tip of your finger so that there’s less of a chance you’ll bump into your eyelash.
3) Applicator Method
Some of us need a little extra help with this. So, instead of spending 30 minutes trying to get these babies in, try using an applicator.
4) The Right Way To Clean Your Contact Lens Case
Most people would attempt to clean out their contact lens case with soap and water before they let it dry. However, tap water can be filled with microorganisms that can cause infection or sight damage and soap can dry your lenses out. You should NEVER use tap water on your lenses. Instead, clean with contact lens cleaning solution and let the case air dry fully.
5) When To Toss Your Case Out
Lots of people will reuse the same contact lens case over and over thinking that it’s safe since they frequently clean it. The truth is that this can put you at risk for infection. It’s best to replace your contact lens case every three months.
6) When Travelling…
Never pour your contact lens solution into a smaller size travel bottle. This can affect the sterility of the solution and lead to infection. Just buy your contact lens solution brand in a travel size bottle.
7) Makeup Before or After Your Put in Lenses?
ALWAYS before. You can get makeup on your lenses if you put them in after you apply your makeup. You should also take your lens out before you wash off eye makeup.
8) Do Not Wear Waterproof Makeup
Contact lens wearers should not use waterproof makeup because if it gets on your lens it will bind to it. Waterproof makeup requires an oil-based remover so you don’t want your lenses to get greased up.
9) When You Don’t Have Contact Lens Solution
You should ALWAYS store your lens in proper contact solution. But if you’re in a jam and need to store your lens when you don’t have any contact solution there are some alternatives. Keep in mind you should NEVER do this long-term and you are using these alternatives at your own risk. Store-bought saline that’s disinfected will do and is safer than tap water. You can also try distilled water. If you don’t have any of that, use salt water. It’s best to boil the water first, cool and then add the salt.
