It’s safe to say that personal voice assistants have taken the world by storm, as it seems like every household with internet access has one of them. Whether it’s Siri or Google Assistant on your smartphone, smart speaker, or perhaps one of the many Amazon Alexa devices in your home, most of us can’t imagine our lives without them anymore.
Even though these voice assistants are made and designed to make our lives easier, sometimes it can actually save lives too.
The smart voice assistant has found a place in many households, that is absolutely undeniable. Even children learn how to work with Google Assistant, Siri, or Alexa- it’s just so natural and much easier than trying to understand complicated buttons or procedures.
While children rely on their parents for a lot of things, in some drastic cases, it can be the other way around.
When Tyrion Neal’s found his mom completely unconscious on the floor, he immediately figured out a way to save her.
The five-year-old boy lives with his mom Jasmine in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. Jasmine is actually an epilepsy patient and has had her share of seizures in the past, but none of them were life-threatening or something to worry about on a daily basis.
However, this time was very different and this epileptic seizure turned out to be a very serious one.
Luckily, Tyrion was able to get help very quickly, thanks to the trusty Alexa speaker in the home.
A while ago, Jasmine actually set up a command for Alexa, which allowed Tyrion to call grandma Natalie whenever he liked. He’d just have to ask Alexa to give her a call, no telephone needed.
Mom thought that this was a perfect communication method, as they don’t live close and Tyrion can easily keep in touch.
“I just thought for you know, him to tell me, ‘Hey grandmom, I love you. Hey Gigi, I love you.’” grandma Natalia later said to WPVI-TV.
When Tyrion’s mom had a seizure, he called grandma for a much more serious reason.
Natalie remembers receiving that phone call, and she says that the poor little boy was crying and crying, making it very hard to understand him. While she thought it was a joke at first, she quickly realized that her grandson was panicking.
“I’m telling him to calm down and he told me he couldn’t wake his mom up. So, of course being her mom, my heart kind of fell to the ground a little bit.”
Luckily, Natalie remained calm and immediately called an ambulance.
While they waited for emergency services to arrive, she tried to keep her grandson calm over the phone.
Luckily, EMTs arrived rather quickly and Jasmine was taken to the hospital and treated. She had to stay there for a little while, but she was doing just fine because of the quick intervention, and she knows that she has her son to thank for it.
“So I’m in the hospital again. This boy saved my life!!! I’m so so so proud of him. He’s my hero. He’s saved my life twice now,” Jasmine posted to Facebook.
“If not for him I wouldn’t be here in so many ways. He’s my reason for fighting pushing and boy giving up and for everything else. I’m so proud of you my prince. I love you higher than the sky, deeper than the sea, around the world, and back again, forever and ever.”
Of course, the little boy could’ve also just dialed 911, but it was grandma over the phone who helped calm him down as well. Grandma could also perfectly explain to the emergency services what the problem was, given her condition.
Thanks to grandma and Alexa, it all ended well.
What a brave little boy!
