Do you ever realize how much you take simple things for granted? Often, this will happen when we experience an injury and can’t do everyday things anymore. Take tying your shoes for example.

There are many ways to tie your laces, but everyone does them differently. It comes down to how you were taught right?

We’ve got a five year old named Colton, and he’s here with a tutorial on how to do laces. His mom films and he shows off his red Nike sneakers while trying to look his best for the video.

How we all learned when we were young

Do you remember being taught the “bunny ear” method only to fail over and over again as a child? We certainly do. As much as it seems to be easy, it takes patience, and teaching your kid is even more difficult.

Most adults probably still tie their shoes using the “bunny ear” method. Why ever change if it’s working right? But Colton has different plans for us.

He says he’s got his own method to show off.

“My name is Colton and there’s a new way to tie shoes.”

As he says this, he promptly brushes his blonde hair to the side for dramatic effect.

Wow, this kid is smart!

Instead of loosening up the laces, Colton struggles while trying to force his foot in the shoe. He’s smart but he is still a youngin’!

He begins by pointing towards the hole near the tongue of his shoe, the one nearest to the ankle, and tells the camera to stick the aglet in the hole, which he then demonstrates for all to see.

He repeats the step on the other side and bam, he’s got his “bunny ear” laces.

Taking it one step at a time.

Colton then grabs the bunny ears and crosses them twice to make a double knot. Finally, he pulls the lace ends that he stuck in the holes. What a crazy shoe-tying hack!

The young man doesn’t forget to give credit where credit is due!

“I learned that from my friend, River.”

We are all grateful for River as well because apparently, he championed this great idea first.

What a pleasant surprise!

A lesson learned from a five-year-old is still a lesson learned! Colton mentions that he already tied his other shoe. He is a great teacher and his instructions are clear.

With all of this talent and his poise in front of the camera, he had us thinking: what else can he do?

Pay homage with the name “the Colton Loop”

A watcher named Kimmy Olson commented,

“That’s how I learned to tie my shoes when I was younger !!! I always have others tell me they have never seen it before so it’s nice to know I’m not alone.”

Sure it may have been his friend, River, who showed him how to tie it but it’s Colton who took to social media and made many lives that much easier.
