Castile soap is one of the most versatile natural soaps out there. So, it’s no wonder that the olive oil-based soap has now become a staple in many homes despite it being difficult to come by in the past.
Its uses are not just limited to hygiene and skin care. Castile soap, both in its solid and liquid forms, has a variety of household and even medicinal applications. Here are twenty-five of our favorites.
#1 Eye makeup remover solution
It’s no secret that the eye area can be very sensitive, making makeup removal a bit tricky. Avoid using the chemical-laden eye makeup removers available in drugstores and opt for something more natural and affordable. Just mix equal parts witch hazel, a carrier oil, and Castile soap. Put it in a container, and then use soft cotton pads when needed.
#2 Makeup brush cleaner
Another excellent use for Castile soap in the cosmetic realm is to make a gentle cleaning solution for makeup brushes. Do so by putting some Castile soap in warm water and then washing the brushes in the soapy solution.
#3 Nourishing facial cleanser
People with dry skin would find this next concoction heaven-sent. Make your own nourishing honey facial cleanser at home. All you’ll need are vegetable glycerin, some honey and, of course, Castile soap.
#4 Moisturizing body wash
Similarly, the moisturizing and cleansing abilities of honey and Castile soap are also great when used as a body wash. Just switch out the glycerin for your essential oil of choice and a carrier oil.
#5 Anti-germ hand wash
Turn your Castile soap-based hand wash into a germ-fighting one with the addition of essential oils like tea tree, eucalyptus, or clove. Unlike regular antibacterial hand washes, this mix won’t dry out your hands.
#6 Baby soap
Since Castile soap is very gentle on the skin by itself, it can also be used on baby skin. Make your own baby soap by mixing an ounce of unscented Castile soap, two ounces of distilled water, and a few drops of lavender essential lavender oil.
#7 All-around shaving cream
Say goodbye to bumpy and red post-shave skin by using this Castile-based lather to get rid of any unwanted hair. Create a lather by mixing soap with some baking soda until you get a consistency similar to the one above.
#8 Simple mopping solution
Want shiny floors without using any harsh chemicals? Turn to Castile soap instead. Mop your floors with a solution of a half-cup of the soap with three gallons of hot water. It is simple yet effective.
#9 Anti-dust mite bedding wash
Get rid of those pesky dust mites from your sheets and comforters by washing them with one-third of a cup of Castile soap. It’s also a great idea to pour in half of a cup of vinegar during the rinse cycle to get the job done.
#10 Toilet cleaner
No time to deep clean your bathroom? Keep your toilet looking decent in between cleanings by giving it a quick scrubbing with a few drops of Castile soap.
#11 Grime-fighting window cleaner
Are your windows looking a bit grimy? Take care of the problem with some anti-grime window cleaner made from a quart of water and a tablespoon of Castile soap. Put the solution in a spray bottle and then scrub away.
#12 Gentle dog shampoo
Pet owners can use the gentle soap as an alternative to regular store-bought dog shampoo. Use it like you would any other shampoo and lather until your dog’s coat is clean. It’ll look extra shiny once it dries.
#13 Anti-insect garden spray
Prevent fungal diseases and pesky insects from wreaking havoc in your home garden. Just mix two parts neem oil to one part Castile soap, store it in a spray bottle, and spray away.
#14 Dishwashing solution
You can also use Castile soap as a solution when hand washing dishes. Do so by filling your sink with one part soap and ten parts warm water. Then scrub and wash your plates as usual.
#15 All-around soft scrub
Create your own soft scrub abrasive cleaner with simple ingredients like Castile soap and baking soda to keep your house squeaky clean. The good news is that it can also get rid of tough grime.
#16 Ant deterrent
Got an ant problem in your home? Castile soap can also take care of that for you. Make your own ant deterrent spray with tea tree, Castile soap, and some warm water. Just be careful to keep the solution away from houseplants as it can burn them.
#17 Multiple-use wipes
Save some serious bucks and help decrease your trash by opting to use reusable cleaning wipes. Just get some scraps of old fabric and soak them in a mixture of peppermint essential oil, warm water, and Castile soap. You’ve now got yourself a never-ending supply of wipes for countertops and other areas.
#18 All-around spray cleaner
Another way you can save money on household cleaning supplies is by making your own all-around spray cleaner. You can do so by combining warm water and Castile soap in a spray bottle. Add a few drops of tea tree oil for a cleaning boost.
#19 Produce wash
Did you score some great deals on fresh produce at your local farmer’s market? Properly clean your goods with a solution of Castile soap and water to get them ready to eat.
#20 Bubble bath
Create a fragrant bubble bath with a combination of Castile soap and your favorite essential oil. Add it to the bath, turn on the tap, and enjoy.
#21 All-natural laundry detergent
Laundry detergents are usually made of a long list of chemicals with very hard to pronounce names. Go for a more natural (and affordable) option by using about one-third of a cup of Castile soap in a laundry load instead of your regular detergent.
#22 Stain remover
Castile soap can also be used to get rid of some stains from clothes. Just wet the affected surface and then rub some of the soap on it. Let the fabric rest for a bit and then start blotting the stain out with a towel before rinsing.
#23 Car cleaner
Certain brands of liquid Castile soap are also marketed as a car cleaner. Just mix the soap with some water and start scrubbing using a sponge.
#24 Decongestant
Please SHARE this with your friends and family.
Do you have clogged sinuses because of the flu or a cold? Unclog them right away by adding peppermint or eucalyptus Castile soap in a bowl filled with boiling water. Then, drape a towel over your head and the bowl, and inhale.
#25 Wound cleaning solution
Some studies have found that Castile soap can be safely used to clean out smaller wounds. Make a cleansing solution with filtered water and the soap.
