Gabi Shull was just 9 years old when she was hit with some huge news.
The Missouri native was a ballerina, and due to a malignant osteosarcoma, Gabi learned part of her left leg would have to be amputated to prevent the cancer from spreading further.
Gabi suffered from a form of bone cancer that attacked her knee, leaving only the option of amputation.
Fearing the worst, the young ballerina worried she may never get to dance again.
Lucky for Gabi, the doctors worked their hardest to ensure Gabi would never have to give up her love for ballet.
Performing an incredibly rotationplasty on Gabi’s left leg, the surgeons worked to use her left foot and rotate it 180 degrees so her ankle can act as her knee joint.
Using a specially designed prosthetic leg, Gabi is able to attach a full length leg to her foot and has full range of motion using her ankle as her knee.
Determined to dance on pointe, Gabi had the prosthetic leg specially designed so she could still dance on her toes.
Screwing in a specially made pointe foot into her prosthetic leg, Gabi is able to continue doing ballet!
Despite the massive hurdles she has experienced from such a young age, Gabi continues to fight through her troubles and continues to be an incredible ballerina with an incredible story!
