Lavender is without a doubt one of the most versatile herbs out there, and there’s no denying that the derivative, lavender oil, offers a ton of beneficial uses and advantages.
Traditionally, lavender has been used for perfumes, as the scent of the flowers is very powerful. Of course, lavender oil is also used as the main ingredient in many different kinds of aromatherapy, not only because of the pleasant scent but also because it mixes quite well with other essential oils such as sage and cedar.
Aside from the main uses of lavender oil described above, did you know that there are a ton of other popular and beneficial uses? We’ve compiled a list of the twelve best examples below.
1) Household cleaning solution
Adding just five drops of lavender oil to a spray bottle can really make a ton of difference, and it just gives your non-chemical household cleaning solution a very nice scent and touch. It’s perfectly mixable with lemon, frankincense, and tea tree oils, all of which can help clean up surfaces more easily.
2) Bath essence
If you want to relax in your bath after a long day, adding just two to three drops of lavender oil definitely is a good idea. It provides a more relaxing and soothing experience. Add some frankincense oil as well for some natural skin treatment.
3) Hair mask
In need of a quick and efficient hair mask? Lavender oil will most certainly do the trick! Just mix two to three drops of it with some coconut oil or jojoba oil. Massage it onto your hair, and rinse properly.
4) Heals acne
According to a lot of dermatologists, lavender oil is one of the best natural solutions to treat acne. It regulates hormonal manipulation and also prevents bacteria from thriving, which often are the cause of infections and thus, acne.
5) Improves blood circulation
Lavender oil has actually been found to lower blood pressure, and it’s often used by patients who suffer from hypertension. This results in lower chances of heart attacks and other cardiovascular conditions.
6) Insect repellant
There’s no denying that lavender has a very strong scent, and while we may find it very pleasing and soothing, insects apparently don’t. It doesn’t hurt to apply some lavender oil on your skin as a prevention method against bites. And even if you’re bitten, the oil does have a lot of properties that will ease the irritation of bug bites.
7) Make your own perfume
Of course, lavender is already commonly used in perfumes, but why not make your own DIY version and create a nice, floral scent? All you need is a single drop for your wrists and your neck – and people around you will say you smell like flowers!
8) Prevent and cure nausea and motion sickness
Have you just traveled by plane and had a nauseous feeling? Or perhaps you’ve spent some time in virtual reality and need to find your footing in the real world again? Lavender oil is a short term solution for both problems: add a drop to the inside of your wrists or between your eyebrows. It doesn’t do wonders for everyone, so your mileage may vary.
9) Pillow spray
The formula is actually quite similar to that of the household cleaner: add one to two drops of lavender directly onto your pillow or some drops in a water-filled spray bottle, and go ahead and spray it on your pillow. Chances are you’ll fall asleep easier!
10) Improved digestion
There’s lavender tea out there which is absolutely ideal to drink after a (heavy) meal, as lavender tea can enhance your digestion. Instead of tea, you can also just apply a single drop of lavender oil on your tongue.
11) Create a more relaxed and calm environment
If you’ve got a diffuser at home, it’s definitely a good idea to diffuse a drop or five of lavender oil. It refreshes the air, is completely non-toxic, leaves a pleasant smell, and tends to have relaxing effects. What’s not to like?
12) Heal smaller wounds
When dealing with minor cuts or wounds, some lavender oil can actually do the trick to help relieve and heal it, as it stimulates cell regeneration. Don’t apply directly, but dilute a bit with some distilled water.
