Or maybe you don’t want to go too crazy and bright but you need to have some design on your top. Go for big lapels or collars instead. Bonus if it’s got a ribbon in the center.

DO: Wear tops with horizontal stripes
A horizontal striped top may be a simple top but it does have a pattern. That pattern also draws the eyes away from the hips and thighs. The pattern draws the eyes towards the top permanently. That’s what you want, no one looking at your hips and thighs. Make sure the stripes are horizontal, not vertical. Vertical stripes will just draw the eyes towards the bottom.

DON’T: Wear shapeless, droopy tops
Hiding your curvy hips and thighs doesn’t mean hiding your entire body. When you wear something shapeless, you’re making yourself look wider than usual. Wear something structured or tailored to help emphasize your best features.

Wear tops that add volume. You can wear tops that have puffy sleeves. Or maybe you can wear a tailored jacket.

Of course since you don’t want your bottom highlighted, avoid light-colored bottoms. Avoid bottoms with bright, crazy patterns, too.

DO: Lengthen the body
The best way to hide curvy hips and thighs is to lengthen the body to counteract the width. You can wear a jumpsuit in one color or a two-piece outfit in one color. Make sure to keep the top part interesting with a V-neck, scoop neck or a not-so-simple collar.

DO: Choose point-toe heel
When hiding curvy hips and thighs, one type of shoe you can’t wear is flats. Wear heels, nude heels are even better. This will elongate your legs and give the illusion of longer legs.

DO: Create a “color column”
A color column works by wearing lighter colors inside and darker colors outside. This will bring the eye in and down. Since the darker colors are outside, the colors camouflage what you want to hide.
