A lot of women love to put on make-up. They love to experiment with different make-up looks to recreate a new version of themselves.
Unfortunately, a lot of women make a lot of make-up mistakes, which can be avoided in the first place.
Different make-up artists have shared their invaluable tips to make sure that laypeople like us don’t make the same common mistakes anymore.
1. Always use the right foundation for your skin type
Do you have dry skin, acne-prone skin, oily skin, or combination skin? Different skin types have different needs. Make sure that the foundation you use is the right one for your skin or you’ll create more skin problems.
2. No lip liner needed with liquid matter lipstick
That’s right, ladies. You don’t need to use a lip liner when using a liquid matte lipstick.
“Lip pencils are not required when using a liquid matte. I use the tip of the applicator to shape the lips like a pencil would. This can be done with any liquid matte shade,” Talia Cich, Education Content Manager at Anastasia Beverly Hills, shared on InStyle.

4. Use scotch tape for the perfect eyeliner wing
5. Or use a cotton pad
6. Not yet used to applying contour?
7. Store away from the bathroom
8. A shade darker
9. Coat those lashes!
“Use the handle of a brush to lift the eyelid at the base of the lashes to roll your lashes up and back; this allows you to wiggle the mascara wand against the base of the lashes and pull through any clumps in a clean and precise manner,” Chanel celebrity makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua explained.
10. Puffy eyes?
11. Make sure your eyelid primer is dry before you apply eyeshadow
All you need is 20 seconds for the primer to be absorbed and to dry. When you apply your eyeshadow, it’ll apply smoothly. If it feels cakey, you applied too much primer.
12. Stop washing your face using soaps with SLS and SLES
13. Apply eye primer on the lash line
14. Accidentally swipe mascara outside the lashes?
15. Remove your make-up
16. Blend, blend, blend
17. Do you have oily skin?
18. Dare to wear red
“If you want to find the perfect red for your complexion, try applying one lip color that has the same undertone as your complexion all over the lip: Cool uses cool, warm uses warm. Apply a red with the opposite tone just to the center for a lip that looks full and fantastic,” James Vincent shared his tip.
19. The lipstick test
20. Homemade treatment
“As a little girl, I would watch my mother apply egg whites to her face (especially around her eyes) about an hour or two before going out to a special event. She would take one egg, separate it, whisk it until it was frothy, and apply the egg white all over her face and leave it on for 20 minutes. After, she would wash it off with lukewarm water and immediately apply her makeup,” Niki Metz, artistry director of Jouer, shared.
21. Always apply primer before your make-up
22. Use matte eyeshadows when you have fine lines around the eyes
“My suggestion is that you always use completely matte eye shadows, which will add color and shading without drawing attention to the creases on your lids, unlike frosted or shimmery shadows,” Tricia Cusden, founder of the make-up brand, Look Fabulous Forever, shared.
23. Stop sharing make-up brushes
24. Stop recreating other celebrities’ looks
25. Use the right concealer
26. Want glowing cheeks?
27. Make-up hack
28. Add some gold
29. Look younger with this hack
“My favorite ‘look younger’ makeup tip is to first use a luminizer in the inner corner, then swoop it with a fan brush underneath the eye. This brightens the face,” celebrity make-up artist Deanna Melluso explained.
30. Keep buffing
31. Want to tame those eyebrows? Use hairspray.
32. Apply eye make-up first.
“I start with filling in eyebrows, as this not only shapes the face, but it also provides definition to the eye area [before moving on to eye make-up]. I think if your eyes and eyebrows are done, you tend to be less heavy-handed and use foundation and concealer sparingly,” she explained on Byrdie.
33. Tarte Timeless Smoothing Primer is a must
34. Invest in the right skincare
35. Summer=/= Winter
36. Multi-colors on the cheeks
“Apply two shades of blush for the perfect flush of youth. Pink or anything in the red family should be placed on the apple of the cheek; it will give the effect of blood coming to the surface. Peach, coral, or anything in the orange family should be applied to the highest point of the cheekbone; that gives the effect of heat rising. Finish by bringing a matte bronzer to the skin where the sun hits the face (forehead, cheekbone, bridge of nose, and chin),” James shared with Marie Claire.

37. What to do if your foundation is too watery?
38. “Scary” spice
39. Want fuller lips?
“Use a flesh-toned eyeliner to outline the lips along the Cupid’s bow. This reduces the chance of feathering and makes lips appear fuller,” Pixi by Petra creator Petra Strand advised.
40. Experiment with shades
“If you can’t find a perfect shade, buy one that’s slightly darker than your skin and one that’s slightly lighter, then fine-tune the color yourself,” Lora Arellano explained.
