Everybody has heard of moonshine. And while not everyone has tried this strong alcoholic drink, it has become more accessible due to being made legal in 2010. With the legalization of moonshine, many distillers have come forward with their own special mixture, giving moonshine connoisseurs a variety of moonshine drinks to choose from.
Here is a recipe for an orange-flavored dreamsicle moonshine drink.
More about moonshine
Moonshine is usually made using a corn mash and comes out as a clear whiskey. Production methods of the past have made drinking moonshine a sometimes risky prospect, with antifreeze and lead content of main concern. But, with legalization also came standardization of the process making it safer to drink.
Dreamsicle moonshine ingredients
This dreamsicle moonshine mixture is simple in the ingredients it uses. As long as you have the patience to allow it to rest for a few weeks after making it then you should have an orange, creamy tasting moonshine in not time. To make this dreamsicle moonshine you will need the following ingredients.
- 1 1/2 gallon orange juice (no pulp)
- 2 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup powdered French Vanilla coffee creamer
- 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
- Vanilla bean seeds (optional)
- 1 cup vanilla vodka
- 4 cups Everclear or plain moonshine
How to make dreamsicle moonshine
Start this recipe by bringing the orange juice to a boil, adding the sugar and creamer until they are dissolved. Once the mixture is boiling, which should be in about 10 minutes, remove it from the heat and allow it to cool down to room temperature. You can also get your mason jars, or other containers, ready for the alcohol by lining them up and taking off the lids. The liquid should take roughly an hour to cool completely.
Next, add the vanilla extract, vodka, and moonshine, or Everclear to the cooled orange juice, sugar, creamer, and vanilla extract mixture. Make sure to stir the mixture well before placing the liquid into the jars, or other containers.
Refrigerate the dreamsicle moonshine
Now, it is time to allow the alcoholic mixture to rest. Store the containers of alcohol in the fridge, keeping it in there for at least two weeks. You should shake each jar at least every day or two to make sure that the ingredients mix well and do not settle to the bottom of the container.
It is also important to shake the liquid before drinking it to make sure that all of the ingredients are evenly distributed throughout the drink. This recipe makes 4 gallons of the orangiest, creamiest moonshine drink that you can enjoy on a hot summer day.
Why you should use powdered creamer
Using powdered creamer in this recipe allows the flavor to penetrate without diluting the drink too much. In addition, if you have vanilla beans, you can add the seeds to the orange juice while you boil it for an even stronger vanilla flavored drink.
