Usually when rescued from a harrowing situation, most humans will show gratitude to their rescuers. And while you would think an animal such as a dog incapable of such displays of emotion, at least one dog has picked up on such displays. At least that was what one lady found out after rescuing the dog from a bad situation.
Here is the tale of a rescuer and one grateful dog that showed its gratitude in the sweetest way.
Found Starving and in 100 Degree Heat
A Kind-hearted woman rescued two dogs chained up in 100-degree heat. She had seen them chained up outside for a few days. She also noticed that they did not have any food or water. She was waiting to see if anyone would help them. When it was evident that no relief was coming, she sprang into action.
According to the rescuer, “I saw abandoned dogs for days with no food, water or shelter, dying in 100 + degrees. They were tied up on two-foot chains, not able to move. I waited to see if someone would help them and I couldn’t sleep at night, so I saved them.”
A Show of Gratitude
It wasn’t too long before she received a surprise from one of the grateful pets. After being rescued and placed in the car one of the dogs expressed his gratitude.
According to the woman, “Minutes after, one of the dogs reached for my hand multiple times wanting affection.”
Initially, she reached over, caressing his face and rubbing his chest. The dog seemed to want more as he cuddled her back. All the while you can hear the woman tearfully saying, “It’s okay.” All the while she kept petting him.
She continued, “It broke my heart that he’d been neglected and was dying and wasn’t mad at me but grateful. I started to cry and again, his focus shifted from himself to now my needs. I couldn’t believe so much love came from an animal that literally just came from a situation like he was in.”
Eventually, the dog tried to clamber up onto her lap as the video ended. This just goes to show that while we might think of them as animals, they have hearts of gold just like us. As a matter of fact, animals show gratitude toward their human rescuers all of the time.
Other Animals Who Showed Gratitude after Being Rescued
One such case is of a squirrel that was nursed back to health by a family after being attacked by an owl. The squirrel has visited the family every day since its recovery. In another case a deer was saved by a family from hunters. Now, each morning when they wake up, the deer is found waiting for them outside their house where they feed it bread.
A more extreme case is of a jaguar rescued by a Brazilian soldier in the Amazon rainforest. Now every time the soldier sees the jaguar it plays with him and his fellow soldiers. Another instance of canine gratitude is the case of Duke, who was trapped in floodwaters with his owner. Upon being rescued, Duke jumped up and planted a doggie kiss on his rescuer’s face.
Do Dogs Show Gratitude?
In fact, some scientific sources claim that dogs in fact do understand gratitude. This is mainly observed in the way they look and react after a human does something to help relieve their pain or rescue them from a bad situation. The following video details this story in more detail and is proof that dogs do indeed show thanks when they feel it is warranted.
